Obama and Gays in the Military

http://www.tangle.com/view_video?viewkey=7bd7edf6e963fded8460

Does he realize the backfire this will have? The morale breakdown? He doesn't because he has never served in the military. It irritates me when men/women make decisions that will affect the military when they have no idea what the military is like. The challenges service men and women face.

The military is unwelcoming and ill-equipped to deal with men/women being 'out'. So, the military is supposed to change its core because a talking head wants it to? Because the president wants to appease his supporters?

Brian E. Payne sharing.

I imagine with this, given 5 years or so, the military will look like Atlanta (Lenox area especially), but on a larger scale. I got outta that man's military, and because of the "practices" of Atlanta, I'm making moves to leave here, too. The safest areas to rear our children right will be the rural areas.

The truth is America is not in a state of evolve-ment or advancement, it is in a catapulting state of decline, so decisions like this should not be surprising, unless you're one of the millions still sleeping, of which, B, I know you're not.

I can totally agree with this opinion (and i do) but I wonder if the writer has a military background to say how the military would feel. Is it really appeasing supporters can it possible be following the constitution. Is it really any different from us sitting or going anywhere we please!!!

It is a backhanded slap in the face to the many thousands of good men and women who have willingly served their country with pride and dignity.

Many of these people will have been severely wounded, many killed in the line of duty.

To tell them they are second class (which is effectively what this policy does) is an insult to their bravery, to their dedicated service for your country and a stain on the character of America.

the military is about wars and fighting for this country not sex agenda .. and it should be kept that way .. your choice is your choice be you straight or gay .. and has nothing to do with the military ..

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. The plan has worked for years and I see no point if changing it now. Just who is it supposed to help?

While I know that gays have served honorably and heroically in our armed services, the overall effectiveness of our services have to be paramount in time of war.

This debate should wait until the current active war is won or lost before this debate enters the mainstream and the question decided.

Sometimes justice and doing the right thing has to wait for its turn.

Absolutely; it should be repealed. There are gays and lesbians in the military, always have been, always will be. Let them stop having to worry about covering their asses and let them concentrate on their jobs.

Disappointing to hear your homophobia is a live in well. Obama challenging the gay discrimination in our military is the RIGHT thing to do. Period.

Muata responds to SN:

"homophobia"

Nope. I know reality. Open gayness in the military is a cancer. That level of necessary testosterone will prevail.
This is the military. It ain't some corporate office...
Perhaps, you do not understand because you are unaware of the dynamics of male machismo culture.

Sn responds to Muata:

So just because homophobia is still alive and well, especially in our military, we should just accept the discrimination and accept it? Seriously? Do you think that would have been okay when people formed the civil rights movement. Pa-lease. C'mon Payne, as someone who has had to fight ignorance and oppression, you can't sell me on that!

I have seen what 'out' does to the dynamics of a team. This is the military...I cannot believe during a time of war a sitting president brings up such a divisive issue. It was reckless and stupid!! It only goes to prove my point: men/women who have never been in the military have NO real foundation to make critical decisions regarding the military.

The president knows nothing about war. Nothing. He knows nothing about troop thinking. He a well-kept politician who goes to basketball games while soldiers come back home without limbs. This man actually waited 8 weeks to give his decision on troop increase or decrease. While waiting, during the time countless military generals told him to sign-off on sending more troops, more soldiers died. He defied the experts. The generals! Why did he wait? Playing politics. Again, he did not understand the magnitude of his 'waiting'.

Accepting people for who they are is the right thing to do. Forcing moments of acceptance is not the best thing to do.

Political Correctness is a cancer. It has eaten away at what's best.

By the way, we are talking about the military... Barack trying to enforce policy in a system that has its on purposeful set of rules. Let the military be the military. If ya gay and want to be out in the military deal with the consequences: the rules!

So, I'm curious. You think the military's gays, lesbians, transgendered and bisexuals should have to live in secrecy to protect the institution's "morale?"
