We all make mistakes. Some stupid. Some necessary...as I so passionately expressed in my Atlanta Journal and Constitution Op-ed piece back when Michael Vick was federally charged with dog fighting.
Wow they hit my girl hard!! And why did it have to be a record-breaking fine?? They are just mad because she made it to the semifinals and made $350K! I hope she comes back and wipes them all up with her tennis racket.
It was commendable of Andy Reid and the Philly organization to give Michael Vick a second chance. As the season progressed I was somewhat excited by Vick playing again even with my adamant criticism of him a couple of years ago - and I was thrilled by him having an opportunity to come back to Atlanta to play. Today, my excitement became reality. Michael Vick led the Eagles out onto the field, he was selected to be a game captain, he was given the opportunity to score a rushing touchdown, and he did. Then, he was given an opportunity to play the entire fourth quarter, and then he threw a touchdown pass. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete the game due to an injury. What I have done is recapped what you already know...that's if you watched the Eagles and Falcons game. What I rediscovered also is that the human spirit is forgiving. Able to forgive and forget so that a man (Vick) can actively participate in his redemption. We all have at least one opportunity to rectify/correct the past. It is time to do just that:
I don't mean to discount everything that Vick has done for himself, but much of the credit for Vick's redemption must go to Reid and McNabb. You will never hear a current or former player say anything negative about Andy Reid. His players love him because of his dedication to the game and compassion for his players. McNabb openly lobbied for Vick's signing and Reid backed him up. At the time, signing Vick was a risky PR move; to the other teams, no one wanted any part of Vick and his baggage. But now, it's not only a great story, but ended up being a smart business move by the Eagles.
I expect (at least hope) this story to continue on a positive note after this season when the Eagles give Vick a chance to be a starter by trading him to any number of teams after seeing the progress that Vick made in Philly. Philly has been so good to him that he may not want to leave but if he wants playing time, he'll eventually need to go somewhere else.
