Yelling, "You lie" would have gotten me killed

Lawmakers Denounce 'You Lie' Outburst at Obama - ABC News

Since President Obama has become president of the United States I have been concerned about the level of blatant disrespect that has been directed at him. Even more surprised by the disrespect certain individuals have for the Presidential Institution. The Office. I was also alarmed by the disrespectful discontent President Bush received in the form of animated pictures, video clips, and with an entire movie.

Kids will blurt random epithets out when they are frustrated and/or mad. Disappointed. I recall mumbling harsh words at my mother when she disciplined me. This act alone would reinstitute another butt whipping. She never heard my words - but the mumble was enough to disrespect her.

Yelling, "You lie" would have gotten me killed.

Joe Wilson, the congressman from South Carolina, has apologized. The President has accepted the apology. Now what?

Should we continue on like the vile comment was not made? Should Joe be reprimanded? Should The Left step-up?

Of course, I cannot move on as if nothing occurred. Thus the reason I am expressing myself in MS Word today. Yes, Mr. Wilson needs a harsh talking to or some level of punishment. And, those on The Left/The Democrats should respond. The response should not be a playground response. Nope. What the voters and supporters of President Obama need to do is speak out. Make their voices known and heard.

As I travel to work or to a coffee shop each and every day all I hear on the radio are steaming mad
over-the- top conservative talk radio hosts, ignorant RIGHT WING callers, and numerous men and women who are dedicated to the Republican Party. Loyal Americans.

I have always believed that the Democrats are weak. Pansies! Unable to 'be there' for their elected officials. Unlike the Republicans, for sure! The GOP followers are dedicated to the PARTY. Not the man. Loyal to what makes up the elephant symbol. These Americans will die for what they believe in. While the Donkeys sit back and do nothing. Basically, hide from confrontation. Flee when times get tough. Punk-out when their President gets disrespected.

Why do Democrats function this way?

They are fickle. Easy to sway. Emotionally driven to 'get happy' during a speech. Incapable of organizing after the victory, winning the presidency.

I left the Democrat Party years ago for various reasons: Too Liberal for my values and I stopped being fooled by their ‘dedication’ to Black issues. I also left because I could not have my name next to what they represent:

Weakness.

Where ya at, Democrats? Your president is all alone. By himself. Fighting for you while you are preoccupied: wondering if an illegal immigrant will get health insurance coverage. Please let Joe Wilson worry about that.

Perhaps he is. Still does not address the issue of how the Democrats have fallen off the seen since the 'victory'. Did the Democrats expect for the The Right to go off into the sunset? These guys are re-energized and the The Left is off drinking coffee and sipping tea. Basking in having a black president. Weak.

One term and he is done. Can't depend on Democrats.

Indeed. The dems are weak. They are the ones who are try to win a gun battle with a knife. Though I think this inaction would do some good if they would jusrt rally around the president. They are scared to ride the wagon because they are worried that the wheels might fall off.

I am encouraged by the tactics of the Republicans because its actually dividing their party. I have seen it in my hometown and I think it's happening all over. Most people don't wanna join the likes of Palin and Paul BRroun. The issue is this. If Obama wins this healthcare deal, they won't win and election for 20 years. It's that simple. A passing of any healthcare bill will shake up the political landscape of the republican party. They will need to re-invent themselves after 8 years of Bush and Obama they might have to wait on McCain's daugther and some of the younger republicans to fight for their traditional values.

I find it delightful that they are smearing and normally I say they should fight back. However, they must gain and identity beyond the anit-Bush doctrine and then fight back. At the moment their aresenal is low.

Do you really think this comment will hurt the The Republican Movement? They are full steam ahead. Joe will be 'punished' in public - but praised at the good ole boys table.

One should also consider that our President may just be lying...He is a politician. Does not make this type of disrespect okay, though! All of them are subject to saying anything to get elected and stay in office. Look at Joe: he one of those who will say anything. Dumb comment. Does not change that it is another rallying point for Republicans.

How? Embarrassed? Will his buddies disown him?

He definitely will not lose his SC seat. Why won't he? The democrats will not come out in numbers to get rid of him. The blacks loyal to the democrat party will certainly not come out in SC. Weak party.

Life goes on for him after the media decides to push another story.

President Obama is a classy man. Perhaps, he should have waited a few days to accept the apology??

Agreed, Joe will be thanked behind the scenes of his good ole boys network, their party sticks together, all politicians lie, Dem's don't slang guns at a gunfight but rather butter knives (lol).

That said, the Republicans are a weak party currently, this comment and those alike (past, future) will not help them regain their political dominance. Nor does it really effect Obama.

President Obama is truly a class act (thus far) and you know for him to have not immediately accepted Joe's apology would be silly! These moves are not new for him (remember back in the primaries and general) you used to be adament about the Republicans having something for Obama, but it seems to never work.

I really don't see the Republican weakness. Please just listen to all the conservative talk radio. Talk Radio in general. They are tearing our president down. The rhetoric sooner or later becomes truths for those listening. The Left needs someone out in the forefront. A risk taker!

I know the loudest mouth at times doesn't get heard - but in politics the loudest mouth without someone combating the loud mouth becomes powerful. Just think about how marketing works: see it, hear it, see it again, and hear it again - the product is sold.

The only one on the liberal side standing up and shouting is the man pushing the product. President Obama. He needs some more sales associates. The aggressive types...

As for now, he is on an island alone. Like Larikus said, not too many are willing to stand with him:

The Disciples were no where to be found when the Roman soldiers came to nail Jesus to the cross. They were punks. Weaklings.

Sad case for the President. He will eventually look around and no one will be there with him.

Wait and see.

Payne you are right, I must agree!! Right wing radio goes hard, no doubt. Actually, I do listen to talk radio, just not as much as you do. I probably watch more right and left wing TV than you.

That said, the rhetoric is always harsh especially from the right. Rush and my man........oh yeah Sean hannity went hard at candidate and nominee Obama. Then he became the President (even you did not think it was possible for him to edge Hillary). Point is, their words were not strong enough to stop him then and I do not see it now! Also, they lost mad congressional seats for a reason (to me that's weakness)

You are still right with him needing more of his troops standing FIRM (I get that). What's your take on my man Olbermann? He goes hard for the left to me, right?

I agree with Pamela on this one, he has caused a certain amount of damage to himself and party on this one. Although B I think you're right in that he probably won't loose his seat but don't think for a minute that his blatant disrespect for the highest office in the land didn't turn some people away from his party.

My friend Kathy and I were talking about this yesterday, and she felt that Wilson would really have liked to have attached the "n" word to that shout out. When you look at his face, it does have a certain resemblence to the anti-civil rights pics. Sad.

And as a card carrying independent for almost 20 years, I hear ya on the issues with Democrats. I think we shoudl have done a proper tar and feather , but can understand why Obama just wants to move on from it. White, er I mean Wilson, obviously represents the faction that refuses to listen and who's only agenda is to shoot down any proposal that comes forth. The hatred he spewed indicates that.
