The Tragedies Begin with that Money Hungry Glance

I started writing a commentary entitled, Typical Jump-off, to offer my opinion on the death of Steve McNair. The writing commenced while sitting in a cabana smoking a Brazilia Maduro cigar, sipping on a Tommy Bahama rum and Coke, and watching countless BEAUTIFUL women pass. Several of the glancing females wondered who my friends and I were considering the cabanas at this hot spot in Atlanta cost a pretty penny to reserve. Little did they know that my regular status, pleasant demeanor, flirting skills (with women only), decent tipping habits, and writing abilities got me the comfortable seating space for free. Yeah, the females possibly assumed I was some Million Dollar slave. They cash eye-balled me and the fellas for what seemed like an eternity. Some even came over to pretend to be interested ONLY in us, and not our perceived status. Small talk lead to the inevitable and predictable question: What do you do for a living? The faces of disappointment were hilarious after I informed them that I was a Recruitment Manager for a non-profit and a struggling writer. Then I saw nothing but the back of their heads that were full of cheap weave. Some even had two to three month old hair-do's that looked like beehives. And, they wanted my attention, money, and time?! Good thing my momma did not raise a fool. No Drink-Chasing Prostitutes and Nappy Heads for me!

As for Steve McNair. Many are calling him a fool today. I have questioned his intentions with that 20yr old - but I have not made it to the judgment level. Believe me, I am one to say that WE ALL need to hold each other in ACCOUNTABILITY judgment. This brand of personal accountability check is considered ‘judging’ by too many! If only we would judge with love. Perhaps, Steve would have been home with his wife and Sahel would not have been an adulteress.

Some are saying that all they will remember about Steve is his tragic fate. I somewhat thought this is where my mind would go prior to reading the article at the link below. My mind changed after being reminded of Mr. McNair's contribution to the world. It was not only a 13 year career as a Tough Quarterback. No, Steve McNair beat several odds to become a NFL horse. Just read up on him. He was more than a man who cheated on his wife. Of course this is where the minds of many women will linger. That's surprising in itself, but typical, considering the average female doesn’t know what it takes to be a black quarterback in the National Football League. They probably have no idea that he was a charitable man.

Why not think of the positive with Steve McNair? We are doing it with Michael Jackson even though we are AWARE that MJ may have been a pervert. A Snatcher of Children’s Childhoods via molestation.

Either way, this does not change the fact Steve McNair died in a condo with a 20yr old Kia driving No Body. Killed violently. As a pathetic cheater in the eyes of the same females I described in the opening paragraph of this commentary:

Glancing Money Hungry Chicks looking for an affair/relationship/f*ck with a man who looks like he makes his loot by running up and down a football field. I should have played along with these imposters of decent women. All it took was one $10 drink and a puff of my $15 cigar to hookem'. Sad.
We make the decisions in our lives. Steve shallowly made his and Sahel Kazemi did too.

Mr Muata-

You are a MESS. Why do men/women feel the need to up grade? I guess this man felt the need and I'm sure his wife was aware (as long as he kept paying the bills)...now look at his ass...in a drawer with a toe tag.

I'm sure if one of the ladies (with the so called bad weave) would have shown you interest no matter what your profession....you would have not cared if the weave was new or old. I've been told it's a Man Thing...hahaha.

Yep I am a big ole MESS…indeed.

Upgrade? I hope Steve McNair did not consider a 20yr old a step-up.

Let me be clear: A man will cheat for NO REASON AT ALL. Life could be GREAT on the home front. Dynamic. Lovely. EVERYTHING good. Including the same old stale booty from his wife. BUT, the man will cheat anyway. The best of us have done it. Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, and more. Probably someone reading Dad.

It has nothing to do with an upgrade. Heck, I have cheated with women who I did not want to bang missionary. Why? Their face was not pleasing to me. ‘No, let me hit it from the back.’ LOL!

Well, after my second rum and coke my other‘hard’ mind was ready and willing to go after one of those non-drink purchasing Jump-Offs. But, my brain in my big head honored my new thought process. Brian won that battle and not Brian’s penis, Dumb Donald. Women need to just realize that it is hard for men to be faithful. It is a challenge.

I must reveal, however, that after 30-35 the man usually tries to practice self-control.

Men need help in this area of decision making. plain and simple! God or His son can't help us. Constant psychological therapy may help. I don't know the answer. It is obvious men are at war with themselves...and losing considering the number of men 'falling from grace'.

Wow dude.... Wow. Steve was my frat brother and our circles overlapped, inside the frat and out. He was actually suppose to be with us in New Orleans that weekend, then he got sidetracked. Infidelity is wrong. Homicide is worse. I feel you on the ladies. They are conditioned by US (men) and one part media. But in all fairness, Atlanta is filled with men with business cards and no business. A Benz and no Budget. Flirting and dating is a game of poker... and more time than not someone is trying to win. The "right one", "situation" and "mesh" is hard to come by... especially in Atlanta. However, I'm blessed with one ("a keeper") and so is AJ. But I hear ya.... and I see the "dollar sign" eyes everyday... Hovering around VIP and the such, but its your choice if you want to go bird hunting or not.

Great writing. Write on...

We rarely know ourselves so what we tell "people" is either a lie or a convoluted description of ourselves that does not match our souls. We are jacked creatures. Animals have better sense than us. Make better decisions.

Speak for yourself my friend. I know me VERY well. If you don’t, I suggest you begin your search until you figure yourself out, but you’d better get busy, life is short, if you haven’t done that already. Sounds to me your not used to hearing “truth” or when you do, you don’t believe what your hearing.

You need to take a look at “The Man in the Mirror”.

"We" is used by me often times so that I am included in my assessments of the world and people. I also use it so that I will not sound like some pathetic pastor condemning the folk. I also use it because it indicates my humility. And, finally I use it because the world is characteristic of MOST not knowing themselves (seen the news lately?). If WE did know ourselves WE would not be in the same messes over and over, WE would not be addicted to harmful substances, WE would feel just fine alone, WE would not disrespect each other, WE would not allow ourselves to be used by men/women, WE would be better stewards of our time and money, WE would give back more to humanity, WE would not be playing church, WE (men) would not be going up in a woman bareback, WE (women) would not allow men to go up in them bareback, WE would not steal from each other, WE would not cheat on each other, WE would not be destroying the environment, WE would genuinely love each other, WE would not be headed to h*ll in a hand basket. Not sure what planet you live on - but WE are the reason the world is in shambles. So, in knowing yourself please try to find where you fit into all the "WE would not's and WE would's" that I have included above. BTW, there are more to include. Help me by including some. Or, perhaps you are Ms. Perfect. Not among the We's...I doubt it WE ALL are imperfects trying to rectify the decisions we have made that have hindered our lives. Made any mistakes lately?

Reader NJ responds to Muata:

Understand your usage of the “WE” word. Thank you for that clarification Mr. Payne. I STILL know where I fit into all of the WE, still knowing WHO I am. And yes, I have made some mistakes lately. Making one right now, because I should either be working or watching the tribute to Michael Jackson. Still what does that have to do knowing yourself? And last I looked out the window..it’s rainy, same as it is probably in your area, same world, same time, different places. “I” can’t change the world, “I” can change a portion of, that’s what I will be held responsible for. Notice, I didn’t use the word “WE”, I used “I”

Have you looked into that mirror yet?

Great writing as usual Brian.

This event was a tragedy all the way around. I think that we all make good and bad decisions and there are consequences that are associated with them.

My prayers go out to Steve's wife and four sons in having to deal with the mess that was left behind. It also goes out to the young lady's family.

JC, you're right - it's a wonderful thing to find 'the one' someone who cares about 'the person' not 'the personality' when the dust has settled. I'm glad to have found her, and I'm sure you feel the same way.

Steve McNair should have been home with his wife, but like some men, they think that they must go out and prove their ego with a little complexioned woman, and think that they can come back home to the strong black woman, but in this case he did not make it back to the strong black woman, his backbone which most black men have a problem with a strong black woman. I experience it, and live it. I am not demeaning Steve's purpose and legacy. I admire him for his football accomplishments, but I do not admire him for this because he has 3 or 4 kids who will ask why did you not want mom? I pray that the children do not grow bitter toward woman later in life, and keep a focus. This is my opinion as a black woman.

Reader Response:

As far as Steve McNair is concerned, I could care less about what he chose to do with his extra curricular activities! These are things that he would have to deal with later such as...wife finding out, mistress killing him....his soul20going to hell maybe? Steve was not your athlete that carried that stereo type that African American Atheletes have to deal with automatically. He was very respectful, very active in the community, a genuine care for people and in spite of where he was when he died, he loved his family! Real people would not focus on the reason he died, they would just shake their heads and say " damn steve, you were a good dude". The ones who normally have hidden secrets, are liars, have no life of their own are going to be the ones to focus on the negative aspect of his death. The main focus at this point should be that his kids are ok. They will probably learn more than is necessary about their Father. What about his wife, pray for her to keep her head up and have her diginity in peace. Even Steve's Mom, who loved her Son dearly, but is probably concerned about does this have an effect on how she raised him! Steve was a good man! He like many other men just can't say no to the "Glancing Money Hungry Chicks " (per your name). There is a serious Jezebel Spirit that has run rampant on this earth since biblical times. She has increased her power more strongly and as usual, dating back to Adam, you men can not say no. The funny part is, Jezebel allows you to think you are playing her, but fact is the only one getting pl ayed is you! The more you whore, the deeper you generational curses are born with your children! But that is a whole different conversation.

"Jezebel Spirit"

I like that. May I use it one day?

I am not a bible usage type of guy - but I have been known to use it to make points:

Adam was hiding when God came back into the garden. God asked, "Why are you hiding, Adam? Where are you?" Man has been unable to answer God since that moment. Man has been ducking for years. Not answering up to his mistakes. Never answering that call, Where are you? God was literally asking Adam WHERE are you in your decision now. God wanted an justification. Adam could not give God a legitimate answer (did
not take responsibility, blamed Eve), and from that time in human history (if the story is true) man has been a serious punk: unable to account for his self-induced pathetic circumstance.
