Still Waiting on Compelling Sotomayor Criticism?

I waited all of last week to hear or read something that would help me with my constructive criticism of Judge Sonia Maria Sotomayor. I researched and I researched. But, there was nothing that I could use to inflame the right wing fire. There was no gasoline. No ‘secrets’ in here closet. Nothing. All I could come up with was her remarkable story. It is impressive. Anytime a borough project kid grows up to be ‘something’ we all should jump for joy. It simply means that the system worked for him/her: She did not succumb to the numerous trappings and vices set forth by our American culture and government. Sotomayor overcame the odds. She is carrying a Puerto Rican torch! Similar to the torch black people carry as they navigate through the dark seas (e.g. failed public school systems, dilapidated housing authorities, and shanty town neighborhoods with liquor stores on every corner) of the United States.

It is hilarious and also sickening that the Republican Party basically does not have a legitimate response to President Obama’s nomination. Hilarious that they only have one piece of ‘controversy’ to present:

"…a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who has not lived that life." –The Honorable Sonia Sotomayor

Are they really going to stick with this 2001 ACCURATE statement? I best begin to monitor what I say and write. I do plan to run for political office one day. Seriously, I am still laughing at these conservative white males. This is all the ammunition that they have? LOL!

As I mentioned, this bump in the road for the judge is pathetic too. With all the stress THEY put on the American Dream, not one of the potential nomination blockers are acknowledging Sotomayor’s success. Her accomplishment. Misery does love company! These men are so miserable that they cannot applaud this ‘brown skin girl’. That’s it. Her brown skin is noticed first. Not her intelligence. Her rulings. Her professional history.

I hear them now, ‘What do you mean, Brian? Clearance Thomas skin was an issue? Was it really? In my opinion, Mr. Thomas was just RIGHT for the Republican Party: A Brotha with White Man Thoughts and Opinions.

Also, the infamous statement should remind us that we (so called minorities) should tell our own story. We are the information gatekeepers of our, in some cases, traumatic experiences. We need to be the final say on what is best for us black and brown people; not some turkey neck white man who really cannot relate to our lives.

If the GOP was smart they would concentrate on her rulings and legal opinions regarding abortion, gay marriage, gun control, stem cell research, and other hot topics for our legislators. These matters are critical. They have the ability to drastically change America…Even more to the Left.

I will acknowledge that Harry Reid showed support today. He is quiet rebel in the congress.

These right wing NUTS are pure comedy to me. They want to criticize this woman (and not surprised) even in lieu of all of her academic accomplishments, yet our previous President (and their boy) didn't know his ass from a whole in the ground. Last I checked, he was photographed with a children's book holding it upside down (indicating to me that this idiot can't even read). I can't wait for Sotomayor to take the seat.

Now I have a small issue with Satomayor.

She went up to Capitol Hill retracking her statement. The one THEY so upset with. I wish people would stand by their TRUTHS. She now saying she could have used "different words". For what? This country will take away your integrity if you allow her to do so. Stay TRUE to your TRUTHS/BELIEFS! I respect that! She still a dynamic choice. A wonderful story of achievement!!

As I read over your commentary about this matter I feel compelled to reply so I'mma say this then I'm done.

The republican party is desperate right now but not because they got the dog sh*t beat out of them in the last election. They are desperate because they are afraid of losing the one thing that White Men cherish the most...POWER! This is the white man's vice! Historically they have been POWER hungry and enough is never enough. I should say her for posterity that I don't want to generalize because all people don't think alike and all aren't the same but when it comes to the Republic Party, they have wielded their power for years with their party and their connections with deep pockets and high influences. Their platform of family oriented and christian values sounds good on paper but20I have always found them to be hypocrits (and I can't stand a hypocrit). The Republicans are pro life and against abortion...yeah right! Let Becky get pregant by Tyrone the Basketball player and see how quickly they will get their private physician to do a D&C. They are filled with morals....yeah right! So sleep with Page boys (a man doing this no less) is morally correct? Family values???? To think that even with Sarah Palin's dysfunctional family unit, they still would not concede that there is something terribly wrong with this picture.
Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with everything the Democratic party says or does ei ther but in my opinion they are and have been a little more realistic than Republicans. In a lot (not all) of Republican's minds this country is and should be represented by Good Old White Christians, Baseball and Apple Pie. The problem with that is that this country is changing even if Republicans aren't. Instead of White Christians we got Muslims and Jews. Instead of Baseball we got Basketball and Football. Even baseball's racial makeup has changed drastically over the years. Instead of Apple pie we have Sweet Potato pie and Bean Pies (My brotha). The republican party is a joke right about now. They are becoming undone at the seams and they are scrambling to find their way back. Not all Republicans think like Rush Limbaugh, New Gringrich or Ann Coulter (The Saluki in a skirt), but plenty do and they are living in fear that this White bread, white owned, white operated country is slowly being taking over by people of color. Of course this is absurd thinking but even if it were the case, history has proven that the only race to be feared at the helm of things is the one already there.

Reader response:

i think she made some statements that are true and easily misinterpretated/or spinned to mean that she considers her values over rule of law and her interpretation of the law. I personally, don't think much of the pick. Nothing will change on the court. Gay rights won't change, abortion won't change. She will just be another left/centrist that says she understand the rule/interpretation of law but at the same time she is politically affiliated in some way or another.

At this juncture the court is but an extension of certain people with a blinded eye towards the human rights of others.

But Eh she is a double minority as they say.

We need a true representative court comprised of blacks, asians, latinos, men women, gays all of the above. But that won't happen.

Thus I won't be excited until they pick someone that has a really different interpretation from those on the court.

Response from Muata:

Some say that there are more people in the middle than on the left or right. If that is the case, why aren't we hearing the middle voices more? Is America made up of bleeding heart liberals and ultra conservatives only? Just Republicans and Democrats? I always understood "the middle of the road" to be fair. We teach this to our children: COMPROMISE. America is fighting themselves. So much disunity that it is ridiculous. Where are the group dynamics that lead to understanding and compromise? Right is not always right and left is not always correct. President Obama represents the democratic party (a party I do not trust with my life) - but he is making an effort to strike accord/harmony. Unfortunately, this will not happen. Too much to be lost on both sides. The republicans are in sad shape. However, we need their intelligent voices to challenge the democrats because in my mind one party 'ruling' is dangerous. Just think about all the positions of the democrat party. Positions that harm kids, the sanity of marriage, etc. Sadly we are moving to far to the left. A few years ago I was saying that we are moving too far to the right. I want the middle of the road.

LS responds to Muata:

There are middle voices being heard. Obama is governing from the middle but he is potrayed as ultra liberal because he has to get us all the way from teh far right. We had become a christian nature of torture and denial of human rights. To get us to a more diplomatic nation that believes in the rule of law and the rights of men and women, it will appear to be far more of a liberal push than it really is.
I don't find either party to have a solid set of values. Republicans lost their way when they lost the election. Dems had no way but they hung on Obama's coat tails until they saw it profitable to make it tough for him. If he fails they win, if he succeeds they win. They just have to be strategic in which items to follow and which to dismiss.
The middle ground as you see it probably doesnt exist. If you are pro choice but anti gay rights, it doesnt make u in the middle, if you are pro life and anti gay rights, it doesnt make u in the middle. Some people are fringe right wingers when it comes to social issues and liberals when it comes to distribution of wealth. I am becoming more fiscally conservative in my days and more socially liberal but I won't cross over to ultra conservatism because I like taxation and some sort of wealth distribution.
We need Limbaugh and Buchannan as much as we need Pelosi and Biden. At the end of the day they represent a voice of some people who don't or can speak for themselves. It's a great way to measure the progress of America. They are openly bigoted. So is Reverened Wright. It is what it is. How can we speak our mind in this forum and be upset when Limbaugh speaks his.

Muata responds to LS:

Please share Wright's bigotry with us/me. The things I have heard and read are on point. This country is racist. She has committed evil acts. She has functioned like the KKK. It is not far-fetched that HIV was created in a lab. Many white people do need to rectify their thinking so that the can move from silly stereotypes. Rev. Wright a bigot??? Really? Black men who state facts that make whites uncomfortable are bigots? Right!!
