The View of an Education

http://www.adn.com/palin/story/516085.html

Palin:

Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters
University of Idaho - 2 semesters
Matanuska-Susitna College -1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters
After all THAT:

BA Journalism

When I was in high school I was told, “You need to go to college.” I eventually did go to college. Actually, I decided to go for the wrong reason though: To run track without the idea or purpose of graduating. Thankfully, over time I decided to buckle down, and as a result I graduated with academic and athletic honors.

Education has become a justification for my intelligence. I have somewhat determined without going to undergraduate and graduate school that my intellectual insight would be limited. In some ways it is but only in certain areas. For example, chemistry is not my cup of tea. Therefore, I cannot elaborate on certain details of this Egyptian alchemy. However, I should be an ‘expert’ in the following subject areas:

Health/Physical Education
Theology/Divinity

Even with my acquired and expensive academia I have been told that it does not matter how much education I have. What matters is how I use it. I have also been told that without some level of an education one places limitations and barriers in his/her path.

Now, that I have this education I at times am viewed as a ‘know it all’. Of course, I am not, and try not to behave as such. I am just confident in my understanding of the majors I decided to study.

While education continues to be held in high esteem it definitely needs to be understood that going to college and finishing within two or four years is not a prerequisite to success. What makes an accomplished individual is the incorporation of his/her learning’s in the day to day process of life.

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain, and Sarah Palin have been to college. They made it to graduation. But, I under no circumstances will use their college experience as a litmus test. I will not judge whether or not they are creditable or prepared to be president or vice-president based on graduating from Harvard University or the University of Idaho. What I will do is defend and/or support when the effort is made to go to college.

And, what we should not do is one day determine that going to college is not all that important and then on the next day begin to believe it is that serious.

If it is THAT SERIOUS I would like for us to explain this:

Joe Dudley – 10th grade education
Malcolm X - no high school education
P Diddy - dropped out of Howard
Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard
Farrakhan - no college education
Harry Truman - no college education
Abraham Lincoln - no college education
Benjamin Banneker – no college education
George Washington - no college education
Gandhi - no college education
Matthew Henson – no college education
Andrew Jackson - no college education
Mark Twain - no college education
Paul Laurence Dunbar – no college education
Ernest Hemingway - no college education

If you don't agree with Obama's policies just vote for McCain. We all have (or should) have a right to vote November 4th. Exercise yours.

Muata responds to DM:

It appears you gather I do not agree with Barack's policies. I take issue with a few - but like I said before: He is the BETTER candidate and he has my vote. I am just one to present both sides. Aren't we in agreement that both sides and an equal playing field of understanding should be presented? I am in no way trying to sway anyone. I just stand for and support fairness when thinking of the choice.

In all due respect, DM, you are responding like the majority of Obama supporters. I believe that response to be emotionally driven. In my view, emotion typically is not the most appropriate route to take when it comes to voting.

And, in fact, you did not address the facts I shared. Could this be because you and others have nowhere else to go when facts, realities, and the other side is presented?

Please do not take offense. I am just trying to be clear and to understand where your disposition is seated at this very moment.

Reader DM Responds to Muata:

I never see you present both sides, just what Obama is or isn't doing that you don't agree with. While I applaud you for keeping us informed, it would mean a lot more to know both candidate's stance on issues not just the flaws of one. Personally, the country is in a fucked state no matter what so I expect no perfect candidate to wave a wand to fix everything.

Muata responds to DM:

i must correct you DM. i have written two commentaries of support. i also have sent emails blasting the republican administration. i am on the record of referring to barack as a WARRIOR. perhaps, my criticism stands out for you because you are connected emotionally to barack and his mantra. just asking?

-Muata

MUATA NOWE said...

Reader DM responds to Muata:

Not emotionally connected to either. Blasting a party is not showing both sides of where the 2 candidates at hand stand on all the policies. It seems to me that you feel that people are being blinded by Barack and are not competent enough to do their research. I for one respect everyone's right to vote and trust them enough to make an informed decision.

Muata responds to DM:

you and i are guilty of blasting the republican administration and bush in particular. i have been in an email correspondence where we both dabbed in the bashing.

and, you know as well as i do that people are being blinded by barack's rhetoric. just like there are those on the other side who are being blinded by the mccain/palin rhetoric.

i have NEVER believed that you or those who i emailed are not competent enough. you also know as well as i do that the masses are not 'researcher' which puts them in the category of follower. we are a nation of followers. leaders and those who think for themselves stick out like a sore thumb.

i for one do not trust that the average joe blow will make an informed decision. not even the level headed, college educated, and so called responsible person will. especially if they are intoxicated by barack's continued and tired change chatter. i just don't believe that because of what history has proven. for example, bush is in office as a result of this.

Reader DM responds to Muata:

We certainly agree on 2 thimgs: The masses will not research and America is full of foll owers. What we don't agree on is you showing both sides objectively, (case in point you made no mention of McCains plan to recoup monies for the bail out provided by the government-See other e-mail). The bottom line, the demographic that you are informing differs from the one u described.

Muata Responds to DM:

I will admit that I am more forceful in making my points that put Barack and his agenda in question. Perhaps, this is my frustration that I believe many Americans are not reflecting on the issues and facts. This frustrates me because if we continue down this road of following and supporting leaders just because he/she makes us tingle we will end up in worse shape. And, to be honest, I really dislike that our people are responding like they are in church listening to a charismatic preacher. Have you noticed this? I have and it is disgusting. For once can we really make a decision based on reality, truth, and substance - and not some speech that you or I could have made. Not to take anything away from you or me - but a speech full of what people need and want to hear is empty rhetoric. Do you agree?

-Muata

MUATA NOWE said...

Reader EJ Responds:

I agree with DM. I have a problem with your commentaries about those of us who support Barack. On one hand you complain about blacks not being involved with the process and now that blacks are involved and excited, you chose to blast them for being excited and involved. I don't give a damn why people vote! I just want them to vote. Do you ever talk about the poor, uneducated white folks who vote republican just because they don't want to be affiliated with blacks. They don't vote on the "issues". In actuality, people vote for a variety of reasons. If I want to vote for
Barack because he is black who are you to tell me how to vote? If I vote for McCain because he is white who are you to tell me I am wrong? Those are not reasons I would vote for a particular candidate...but this is America.

It appears to me you write something positive about Barack just so you can say you did.....Then the other 90% of what you say is negative. Vote for McCain if you want...but it's not necessary to belittle others that choose not to vote for him. You continue to portray Barack as some kind of preacher who is bullshitting his congregation. What about this mans past makes him unworthy of our support? What has he done that proves to you what he says is "empty rhetoric"? And what makes you think you could come even close to giving a speech that is powerful enough to move the masses? Please answer those questions?

-EJ

MUATA NOWE said...

Muata responds to EJ:

I will answer your questions for you - but I did address them in my back and forth with Derrick. Then, can we move on to the next topic?

It is empty rhetoric until the promises and proclamations made are addressed and delivered. EJ, you know that the United States situation is to the point change cannot be instituted for at least 10-20 years. Barack will not tell you this. He can't. People don't want to hear that. But, I am in favor of telling people the truth. He can still inspire and present hope with the truth. I ain't no damn kid. Tell me the truth. Moses told the truth and people threw rocks at him. But, in the end they came to his side. How I hope for more men like Moses!!

I do support Barack. I just ain't one to be on his nut sack. I am a critic of all of them politicians. They are liars and pandering vote seekers. You know this - but you will not give Barack this label because he has 'touched and moved' you. He has affected me in a certain way - but he has not made me lose focus. Not that you have - but you have to admit that your emotions has taken over at times. So much so that you will talk over people and dismiss their comments of oppositions. You are guilty of that, Eric. What am I guilty of other than questioning? Tell me so that I can consider rectifying my behavior/approach. Mind you, I only question when I have researched the topic.

I am confident enough in my orator abilities to know that I c an at least inspire a few hundred folk. Nothing like Barack: Thousands. However, anyone with decent public speaking skills can move the crowd these days especially if you say two words: HOPE AND CHANGE.

BTW, hope/faith is linked to spirituality and religion. I find it interesting that you can disconnect this hope Obama speaks of from your disdain for religion. Interesting, EJ.

Reader Dm Responds to Muata:

I respect everything you are saying but you are still under the mindset that people support Obama because he is a good orator. Have you ever considered that this may not be the case?

Muata addresses EJ:

It is funny that no one has addressed the main issue of this email. The candidate's education and my rebuttal: my listing of other people who have been successful and dynamic at what they do without a formal education or limited education.
I find that to be somewhat of a smoke screen. What's occurred: questioning of Brian, accusations of Brian, and Brian defending himself. Now, isn't this typical of what happens in politics. The main issue was not addressed by those who are on the defense. Somewhat like Barack has been lately. Here he is running for president and he is attacking the opposition nominee for vice president. Where is Biden? This entire email dialogue played out as expected: issue not addressed. Fellas, that was classic and typical. And, EJ I am surprised that you did not defend or support me on my initial email considering you have always believed that a formal education is not really necessary to be successful. Why not speak that, Eric? Is it because I struck a nerve because you are ready at all cost and with limited merit to defend Barack Obama? Again, I want fairness and truth to be the guiding principles. Not, speeches full of agendas that cannot be delivered. Both sides do this. And, I have challenged them.

-Muata

MUATA NOWE said...

EJ Responds to Muata:

I disagree. In order to be president you must have a degree from a higher learning institution. That has nothing to do with my former statements that you don't need an education to be successful. That is two totally different things. You can be successful at being a barber, plumber, or construction worker.....you need more than that to be PRESIDENT of the USA.

I sure hope you understand that point.

DM shares the following link. Checkout the video entitled The Great Black Vote:

Open the attachment: MOVING

I’ve heard from some that many of us (Blacks in America) are voting for Barack Obama in November because he is black. I’ve also heard those that say “You are damned right, and I’m proud of it”.

Bottom line is, we never know people’s reason’s for voting or not voting for that matter but one thing is for sure….

I ain’t mad at anybody for voting for someone that may be able to relate to them as a human being because they may have faced the same hurdles in life.

BARACK THE VOTE!!!

Muata Responds to EJ and DM:

I appreciate the dialogue we have. If you are not aware: I do learn a lot from you and others. I also understand where you are coming from. I do. My focus has been to challenge, and at times I have been perceived as being judgmental and on a mission to belittle. That has not been my purpose. All I want is for black people (all of us involved in voting and understanding politics) is to consider both sides before we latch on to an agenda or cause. That's it. I want us to think prior to committing. I am not assuming that we do not do this. I am confident that a huge portion of our population does not critically think. I am convinced by it considering where we always appear to be in this corrupt country. We have not fully arrived until the least of us are on their way up. And, both of you know that I can care less about white people. I don't care nothing about them as a group/people. My focus is on us. Yes, what we do wrong and what we do right. I am just like my grandma. She was hard as hell on me - but she had a purpose. It was for me to be in a position of intellectually power and strength. She forced me to think, assess, and then react.

Reader MC Responds:

Such a critic!

you can be a critic and everybody has an opinion. i think that sometimes your goal is to be provactive and thought provoking and you miss the mark. i'll be honest. this election process scares me. someone with your talent and voice and audience has an obligation, yes, obligation to educate people and spread the truth. politics are ugly, period. but instead of applauding this man for something that has never been done before and achieving it with dignity, honesty, passion and humility, you chose to point out his faults. there is a lot at stake here an d i'm sure you reach a lot of people who look up to you and hold your opinions in high regard. i'll leave you with this. there are two men running for president. i'm sure mccain supporters aren't sending out blogs highlighting his many faults. so, ask yourself, what are your motives and why?

-MC

MUATA NOWE said...

Muata Responds to MC:

I want the masses of us to make an informed decision. The only real way to do this is by hearing and reading both sides. That's it. I am so tired of us latching on to what is popular and what is in style just to be on the side of the new fashion. I aspire to challenge. To create dialogue where we can disagree but learn from each other. We are not doing this. What many of us have done is believed in a man just because he makes us feel good. Think people! Analyze people. Criticize with a purpose people! Then stand up with a strong backbone knowing that you are casting this vote understanding the issues without dissing the other side. Mia, you know as well as I do that most of us are intellectually lazy. I will not be this, and as long as I can type I will challenge all of us to do what is fair and right. While seeking truth.

-Muata

MUATA NOWE said...

Reader MC Responds:

Well then I challenge you to consider your intent vs your impact. Your intention may be to inspire, educate, challenge etc, but the impact is less than unsuccessful as you see from your audience's responses. I feel you about us being intellectually retarded/lazy but you are not making the impact that you should on those that need it the most. Why don't you spend some time on the Obama campaign educating those that don't have internet access or those of us not in the scope of your keyboard. Why don't you challenge some young men whose voting rights have been suspended to appeal to get them reinstated. Just some thoughts...
