Abortion is a “human activity" utilized by black women?

Seeking the Female Perspective

Endangered Species - a species at risk of extinction because of human activity, changes in climate, changes in predator-prey ratios, etc., esp. when officially designated as such by a governmental agency such as the U.S.

I guess one of the "human activities" is abortion? What does the first part of the definition imply in the context of black women?

I can think of several other human activities related to black males...

*Injustice that leads to incarceration
*Police brutality that leads to murder
*Down Low activity that eventually comes to light (Is this one a stretch?)

Let me know what you think.

Genocide?

Abortion is a female discussion that needs be a topic for female round tables not white men on Capitol Hill! Right?

Before I even begin to "think" about answering this, which as a thought, seems so vast & potentially long, let me clarify that these are your specific questions below (?):

This is a subject that would require more than just an e-mail trail to discuss to even begin to skim the surface. But suffice to say, each year, more and more Black women in America--because this is where abortion is more widely accepted and provided for, especially in low-income Black neighborhoods--seek abortion as a means to contraception.

The birth rate for Blacks in America has declined significantly in the past 20 years, to the point where it is almost comparable to the birth rates of Caucasian women. The Caucasian birth rate is almost stagnant (check the CIA Fact Book), with numbers almost unchanged over the course of the past 50 years or so, so that tells you how many Black women are either not having children, lessening the number of children or aborting the unborn--and this is amongst the learned as well as the unlearned Black woman. We are at crisis point when it comes to continuing the Black man/woman in America. Anytime growth numbers become stagnant that means as quickly as we die off, we are just barely being replenished. Soon, as in the Caucasian group, we will have more Blacks dying in America than are being born. While I cannot make the decision for every woman, I, myself, am anti-abortion as it pertains to me. I will not abort one of my unborn children. I have five children who can attest to that.

Food for Thought:

"When you control a man's [woman's] thinking you do not have to worry about his [her] actions. You do not have to tell him [her] not to stand here or go yonder. He [She] will find his [her] 'proper place' and will stay in it. You do not need to send him [her] to the back door. He [She] will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he [she] will cut one for his [her] special benefit. His [Her] education makes it necessary." -- Carter G. Woodson, The Mis-Education of the Negro

“We do not want the word to get out that we wish to exterminate the Negro population and the Minister is the man who can straighten that idea out should the word get out to the more rebellious members of their population.” ~Margaret Sanger, 1939 eugenics and population-control advocate and founder of American Birth Control Society (now Planned Parenthood).

I find it extremely surprising

It has been like that for use in
The context of politics...anyway. White
Men own the discussion. Black
People set back and do not
Say a word on the subject.
Almost like HIV/AIDS talk.
We avoid it. Abortion has so
Much emotion attached to it.
So much is lost when it occurs.
A life. And, we sit back.
We should be in the forefront
Addressing/challenging a
That group that believes they

Thanks, EVERYONE for 'receiving' my email. The discussion was extremely limited. But, thinking about the subject matter more so than I ever have has brought on more insight. Again, I only wanted to learn from females. My position was irrelevant, and I was not 'indicting' anyone.

I love me some sistas! Stay strong. Stay in the black man's corner...MORE of us will soon be what WE were intended to be. We been hiding every since God asked, "Where are you Adam?" Many are answering God's question and doing something about the mess they have made. You may be overlooking him...if you are looking. He right there!

Nandi responds to Muata:

You know it's really shameful, but I didn't think you'd get much of a response, especially since quite a few of our "learned" sistas indulge in this "activity" at some point in their lives. Guilt makes it difficult to speak on it with any passion, lest the passion give them away. And there are others who have adapted to the concept that there's nothing wrong with abortion, yet they are "followers" of Christianity.

While I do not believe that black children are an endangered species, I do believe that black women are very selfish in there decision continue to use abortions as a form of birth control. If you dont want children you should be proactive not reactive. One should take the necessary steps to prevent pregnancy rather than terminating the life of a child(heart starts beating as early as 2-3 weeks. The statistics are alarming and we should be ashamed of ourselves for making up more than 50% of abortion procedures while we are only 30% of the population.

Let's keep in mind that these are reported abortions from agencies that report to statistical gathering organizations. I mention because some believe that white women get just as many abortions...but go to private locations that do not report the numbers. Either way, abortion is a tough one. While it is a female's choice I do believe that being "proactive" is the best approach. We are talking about a life. I also believe that the push for it to be a "female decision" the value of that life has been watered down all in the name of 'choice'. We big on 'freedom' - but don't act in ways that indicate we appreciate the freedom...

I hate to say it but I don't really like the name "TooManyAborted". There is not a "right" number of aborted (other than zero, of course).

One child killed is one too many.

For some reason I'm going to say that I'm uncomfortable with calling Africans a "species." I know that they meant well but I'm going to say that, perhaps it's just me, this wasn't a good idea.

And I think that the high percentage of abortions performed on African-Americans is due to the higher percentages of African-Americans living in poverty versus Anglo-Americans.

A response from the creator of the campaign:

I knew when I created this campaign that some would get caught up in the usage of 'species'. It's simply a play on the countless 'ENDANGERED SPECIES' ads we've seen (save the whales, save the seals, save the gray wolf...) and redirecting it to the HUMAN SPECIES that is most endangered-- black babies. Species does not mean animal...people tend to mistake its definition.

With Psalm 139 as our foundational truth, we just want to save Possibility. In the unborn child. In the would-be mother. And the would-be father.

The Radiance Foundation is committed to creating campaigns that get people thinking and illuminate the Truth. Thanks to Georgia Right to Life (who paid for all of the billboards) I think we're off to a good start.

Written by me on fb (tee hee- couldn't resist)

Of course.. but billboards and focusing on the outcome of unhealthy relating rather than how to develop healthy relationships which lead to marriage is not the solution...

nor has telling folx in heat to use a condom been successful...

Babies are not anomalies disconnected from a familial institution.. Healthy black relationships that can sustain and cultivate/nurture children are endangered.....

Muata responds to S:

"Healthy black relationships that can sustain and cultivate/nurture children are endangered....."

I like. I agree!

I do believe that relationships across most race lines are in 'trouble'. People are not willing to address themselves leaving relationships to be hyjacked by insecurity, resentment, anger, and all the other barriers to a productive and lasting relationship. Therefore, as you have identified, producing situations where the pregnant woman is ready and willing to utilize abortion...because the 'dynamic' is not RIGHT.

Also, Americans spend so much time and energy promoting and highlighting 'the right to chose' when it suits us or just to be Politically Correct. It is amazing to me that we don't put righteousness in the equation. We all know that abortion is not in line with what is right. Regardlless of our secular opinions abortion is WRONG. How can it not be when The Creator creates life to be had- to be lived not destroyed?

It is simple to me...

I will be labelled 'judgmental' for the last paragraph. Another tactic used by the sensitive to invalidate what WE ALL KNOW to be RIGHT. Judgment of others worked well in many African tribal cultures...

Reader Response:

Actually, abortion is a medical procedure. People have abused the medical procedure and turned it into birth control. Others use it for political grandstanding and to judge others and religious politics. Abortion was a procedure used by the privileged secretly for many years. Now political nonprofit groups have used it as a tool in minority communities. I heard a statistic that black women outnumber all other women when it comes to getting abortions. The real issue is that the Black community is pretty screwed up. Our black churches are more for profit than saving souls, we don't value ourselves anymore, and we continue to allow other races to define who we are. We have completely lost our identity as a race. We glorify athletes, rappers, and drug dealers. Your average athlete, rapper, and drug dealer has plenty of women, kids on the side, and thinks there's nothing wrong with it. Then we have television shows that show us acting ignorant, women wearing no clothing, and using sex as a means to get jewelry, clothes, cars..... Then we have to address domestic violence, HIV, incest,.... We have the same issues that other races have. We just have a tendency to not want to acknowledge it and deal with it. Oh, and let us not forget the ones who don't want to do any better. Yes, we all know some people like that.

I honestly feel that the abortion issue is not for any man to discuss. See most of you will make the baby, pretend it's not yours, then encourage the abortion. But the woman has to deal with the emotional trauma. Let's discuss implementing some laws that address the males part in making these babies and stop judging the women for doing what they felt they had to do.

So true!

"See most of you will make the baby, pretend it's not yours, then encourage the abortion."

I was trying my best to encourage someone to mention this (the second statement above in quotations).

Men play a huge roll in all this...so, I believe men should participate in the discussion-but not on the level of deciding if the choice to abort is outlawed or remains legal. Men need to address where their feelings/thoughts push them when they are PRAYING for the female to decide to get an abortion.
