Black Unemployment is High..AND? What's New?

Open Letter to Obama: Black Unemployment Must Be Addressed -Dr. Boyce Watkins

http://www.bvonmoney.com/2010/09/13/open-letter-to-obama-black-unemployment-must-be-addressed/

What did we expect? Black unemployment has many layers. Our condition has been rough for decades. The election of a black president was not going to change that. I am trying to figure out what type of plan the president can put into motion to get blacks employed. Is he suppose to say, 'Okay folk, these jobs are for blacks only.' How should this work? I am convinced if scholars, economist, and other experts cannot get jobs to fall from the sky they will not for the president. Blacks are last on the list to get hired anyway! If I owned a business I would be loyal to MY PEOPLE. What makes us think that the white business owner is not being loyal to HIS PEOPLE? We need our own...and stop asking the government for this and that. How about more black millionaires invest in black employment? Just a thought...

Reader Response:

The majority of blacks are still operating from the frame of reference that they should buy what they want and beg for what they need. So, right now, they're hoping that translates into Obama creating jobs for them in the name of Jesus, Yahweh, Jehovah (Amen), when it is them who should be finding ways to create businesses and jobs for themselves. Do For Self. An old adage, but a relevant one all the same.

As long as they're hoping, nothing else is required of them. At least, that's the way they see it. *sigh*

Interesting...
Perhaps if all hope was removed black people would do more to advance themselves??? Won't work...black people would then have to give up on God bailing them out.

Nandi responds to Muata:

As long as they can live the fallacy of religion, they'll continue their self-destructive behaviors and keep begging. And, you know what, it's pretty much beating a dead horse to try to change them. Those that want differently, strive for different, even when brought up in negative environments and dangerous circumstances. I've lived that and so have you. Hell, my husband grew up in Bowen Homes, and he's doing darn good for himself. Statistics say he should have been broken, jailed or dead, but he wanted something different.

LS responds:

Those with jobs that don't involve technology or without an understanding of the microsoft office suite will remain unemployed. In this world technology rules. Those who lack these skills are not as employable. In the end it comes down to 2 things. Those who survive and those who don't. The president can't create policy to change this uless the govt spends money investing in infrastructure and it produces jobs.

The country is and was a MESS! It's clear as day that Freedom of speech is not free and there is no liberty and justice for all. The founding fathers were controlling and greedy thus all the economic turmoil of the past and present. Watkins should question America, not Obama, for the plight of black people. Reality check.................................Black people were not in the original plan to share and prosper from the wealth!

Very good points Muata, I guess they believed by giving affirmative action it would be OK but that only works for women. Its 2010 and we are still fighting for so called equal rights. Africans in America have never received the same educati...ons as whites, but Obama will not fix this. He does not see a big issue(were all Americans) is what he Say's, he cannot help a problem he does not relate to. How do we help ourselves?

If we began to educate ourselves on business & how to organize a investment plan back into our communities. I'm talking about teaching young entrepreneurship to the youth that are not being tought anything about real life in school. Most blacks no nothing about saving money or flipping a dollar into a hundred dollars, these are things we must start teaching & educating our selves on.

i am sitting here (in some company's meeting - not my meeting - i have to find a way to work for myself) trying to think of one black millionaire/wealthy black who has invested in a business that could employ a workforce. like a furniture f...actory. a hosiery mill. a sneaker making factory. a bakery. not one name comes to mind...what does that tell you/me? perhaps i am not thinking hard enough??? we are not reaching back with what matters: money, industry, jobs. yes, we will mentor, go serve at a homeless shelter, volunteer at the YMCA/rec center. all this is helpful - but black men and women need jobs. michael jordan makes nike all that money - and he has yet to take control of his brand. he and other blacks can build an empire that employs blacks.
