OBAMA the Poor Man’s Jesus?

Needing another Jesus certainly should not be a necessity. The Jesus we have been presented with definitely has not provided much of anything for America’s converted Negroes. Therefore, the idea of a 21st century Messiah of bi-racial decent should not even be considered and/or discussed.

He is a black man full of inspiration that motivates people to be better human beings. Nevertheless, President Obama may just be destined for failure if he is depending on the masses to pick up The Cross and follow him. Just like Jesus, his success is unfortunately tied to God’s worldly and unworthy children. The continued rebuking of Christ should not and cannot be replaced with a second installation of God’s failed Son.

Inconsequently, we need to hold President Obama’s feet to the fire. Like the Romans were leery of Jesus we should be critical of his intentions and his policy formation despite his angelic persona.

There is my answer.

Those who love Obama unquestionably will not be swayed by a detractor's rantings..

If we are truly to be wise we will take advantage of his presidency and learn to do what is necessary get our politicians to work for "US".... spending time trying to convince those that feel hope for the man that they should think deeper about their choice AFTER he is elected seems to be just as much folly as voting for color with complete disregard for substance...

I love him. He is a great role model...smart, intellectual, listens as well as executes, driven, "not ghetto", family oriented, not afraid of a strong black intelligent woman who can challenge him, worldly, well traveled. A positive image of a black man that is on TV everyday running things.

If he and the Obamas do nothing else was to show my 7 year old...as she has stated...."Of course he is president" while we older folks are still in awe. We no longer have to lie to our kids and say "you can be anything you want...even President". Subconsciously, my daughter sees that he is black, but in the forefront, it gives her a positive self image she does not even realize.

He also shows that it is "cool" to be smart while he can play b ball as well. We need more brothas in highter education and maybe this "cool" to be smart will help in that. We are a proud black people and I, for one, am proud of him.

GO OBAMA.

Ditto to Corinne. Thank you becasue I could not articulate that as well as you. I hope the display of perfect black man goes on forever. This is the first time we see a black man famous for not having the H@!! beat out of him or for killing his blonde wife. Let's put things into perspective. I'm pleased that in our lifetime we can finally believe that "Yes We Can"

U see thats what im talking about, they can blast me but they can't blast the truth. he promised the woman when he wanted to get HRC's vote equal pay(he gave it to them), he promised middle america jobs (he's giving it them), he promised the latino community citizenship (thats coming) , what the hell did he promise us - NOTHING. i'm sick and tired of. how can a persons come out and ask the President, the President to buy them a car, a kitchen and a house, a HOUSE. and he responds my staff will get with you.

Provide us opportunity for advancement and wealth, don't take it away from us and make us dependent on you.

Blesss you Brian for the scales that are not on your eyes.

Happy "New America" to you E. Payne,

I hope this message finds you in good spirits my beloved HU Brother. Before I add my 2 cents, let me thank our good brother Zachary for throwing a stick in the mud and stirring up the kettle a bit.

First and foremost, let me state for the the record that I am very proud of our President and remain very hopeful in regards to the positive change that I believe he can (and will) effect on our country and our standing in the world. I am writing this response while on travel from Malaysia (currently in Korea heading back to the USA). My personal observation from an International front is like night and day in comparison to how the US was percieved only six months ago. To characterize the global feeling of "hope" in inspiration that President Obama's election has inspired as some type of messiah dillusion is sorely off point. President Obama himself has acknowledge that he is no "Superman" and that change is going to take time. President Obman has said time and time again that it will not be easy.

Which brings me to my next point. To suggest that efforts should not be made to attempt to fix a broken system is defeatist at its core. Change may not come swiftly, but it will not come at all if the individual or group doesn't take the first steps to initiate that change. I am glad that our good brother Dr Martin Luther King did not adopt the futile additude toward civil rights. I am happy that are good Bison brother Thurgood Marshall found a way to use the system to reform "the system". Though many of these initiative were launched outside of the political structure, it was the leveraging and bending of that political structure from within that allowed the struggles of so many to come to fruition.

Many of us differ on tactic and strategy, but I have always believed that there is an extreme advantage and ability to change misguided system from within that cannot be parrallel from external forces alone. Remember that cancer is so effective in defeating a cell because it works from the inside out. For this reason, I am proud of the Collin Powells, the Oprah Winfrey's, and President Barak Obama.

What I believe many have found to be inspiring in regards to our new President is not that he is some type of Messiah, but that he appears to have common sense, humility, and Integrity. Given what our country has gone through over the past 8 years, what President Obama is bringing represent one hell of a relief and breath of fresh air! I have fail to see President Obama turning himself away from the black community ( that would appear to be difficult to do every morning when he wakes up and greets his wife, children, and mother-in-law). As a current resident of the District of Columbia, I have seen both he and the First Lady make their presence known in the local Black community ( they have only been in office less then a month ). His story is not yet told, and we all will all be known by the fruit that we bear. I remain confident that though it may not be perfect, that the fruit that he will bear will be good.

Last point. If I recall my Black Diaspora class taught by Dr Olive Taylor, 1/16 of a drop of African heritage blood in America makes your 100% black.

Peace

Brothers and sisters, don't get me wrong because I'm proud that we have a Black President but some people are going a little too far and actually worshipping this man. When we place too much faith in a man, there's always some huge letdown!!

Let's continue to support President Obama in these difficult days ahead, but until I see some walking on water or some water to wine then he's just a MAN!!

You know, we as people put so much into loving our b-ball players and the like and put them on pedastles....and they aint giving you any loot either. They will come into the community and sell you 500 dollar overpriced sneakers...the rappers as well.

Finally, we have a person with intelligence and there is a problem. I don't get it. No one is saying he is a God...but he is a God send. Having hope is powerful...it is what gets the cancer patient through, a new day is what gets us through sometimes...even if it may not get better immediately.

Maybe Obama cannot wave a magic wand...but the brother is trying. He has a strong intelligent black woman on his arm, intelligent kids, and is an intellectual. This is a good role model for our kids...and us...a man who stays with his wife and kids...if nothing else...you don't think our communities need to see that.

I will especially say, besides his policies, one of the things that sold me about him was Michelle. Michelle. Do you realize how many black women feel that way. THere is no question that she is black....unlike what our althetes tend to choose......
