African American culture...Is there such a thing?

While at a conference in New York (NYC has always been too fast and funky for Da Country Boy):

Thinking. Listening. Thinking more than listening. Lord knows I want to NOT think as much. My brain always at work is not necessarily a good thing. But, the sites and scenes of NYC are more than enough to invade and pollute my cerebellum.

Thought:

As I think about ethnic groups, I cannot think of what African Americans are 'known for'. Something outside of entertainment? For example, Asians are known for math/science intelligence. Jews are known for using their money to build financial empires.

Help me think of some 'known for's' for African Americans. 'Known for's' that benefit African Americans collectively.

What is 'a part of African Americans' that help us build community (real community), and not contribute to some system that can care less about our existence. What I mean by the previous sentence: we are always in the position of contributing to some other groups elatedness via entertainment - and we continue to make some other group wealthy.

Further, is there a such thing as African American culture? If it is, what does it entail?

Let's see if we can discuss this without using slavery as justification for our overall 'positioning' throughout the United States. If ya want I can list several groups from around the world that faced moments (decades) of cultural exploitation and 'stripping'. *I am trying my best not to lean on slavery as a reason...that is a goal of mine.

In what areas non entertainment related do we stand out?

What makes the United States deserving of immunity?

I met a white guy the other day at a career center. He is unemployed - and on a frantic search for employment. He is no different from a lot of people. So I did not think much of his looks of desperation.

Some say that the “unemployment market is bouncing back”. That’s good news for me considering I will be ‘hitting the pavement’ again soon. Don’t be alarmed. Just know that grant money should not be an agency’s primary source to serve The People. That soft money quickly dries up, and eventually the government funders are on to the next caring organization that has it hand out begging for ‘Obama Dollars’.

The white guy did not ask me for money. Actually, he wanted me to listen. So I invited him into my place of solitude at work, my office. I began to listen to him reluctantly. After about three sentences I shutdown. I was silenced with a tad bit of anger by, “I never expected that I would end-up like this. Unemployed. With no evidence of employment coming my way. I did everything right. I am not supposed to be in here with these people. I am trained and educated. This is not for a person like me.”

After I asked him, “Who are these people exactly?” he got up and left. That was best for him.

His statement is so typical of an overly arrogant white male who has been affected by His country’s in progress coming home to roost collapse. “This is not for a person LIKE me.” Really? I saw fire! His disposition is classic of the United States government - and it 'fits' right into what I have been thinking and believing since I was old enough to knock down the self serving fortress, American Arrogance.

These ‘patriotic white men’ cannot understand why The Union is in turmoil. But, I know exactly why! And, as a result of that one reason, the incidents (below) are listed and serve as reminders and provide support for my rationale that the United States is undergoing all this deserving retribution because of her inability to be truthfully accountable and unselfishly humble.

God (according to that ancient book slave masters used to enslave the mind, the bible) with his commanding and vindictive powers showed the Pharaohs what price had to be paid for the bull headed, arrogant, and egotistical male misdeeds and disobedience e.g. natural disasters and calamity as a result of man disobedience.

With that in mind this country is in for it. Too bad those who have no connection to the grand scale corruption and parting from Godly ways will perish with the biblical Roman-like Empire too…unless God decides to ‘favor’ a select few like the He did with the Hebrews. (This is the Old Testament/Exodus sharing, not Muata).

The sad unfortunate is that the United States government and culture has created a monstrous entitlement attitude and pacifying environment that’s reflective of that white man’s thought process: ‘This should not have happened to me.’ I ask, Why not?

My Experience at the iPad Giveaway

The only reason I went was because I wanted to win an iPad. Not that I would use it. My company laptop works just fine.

When one is need of cash, not credit, there are choices one has at his/her disposal. The obvious choice is to work for it. Like a stripper does. Like an illegal immigrant does. What I wanted to do on this day was increase my chances to be a non-working winner. I wanted to hear my name called like I was ‘important’. I wanted to be envied! I was not interested in winning a trip to Las Vegas. Never been there! The iPad I am certain would have garnered me an immediate sale. I am confident a ‘wanting to look cool individual’ (like I must look when pecking on my laptop at social functions) would have jumped on my deal.

I did not win…I never win anything. Should have known better!

Three names were called. The first guy by the name of Justin did not answer. He missed the 10 second countdown too. Justin…was a winner – but he blew it by leaving the Happy Hour, a rarity in Atlanta believe it or not – Happy Hour.

Kenya’s name was called. She missed the 10 second countdown too – but there is an interesting twist.
So, keep reading.

A young lady headed to the prize table…well, everyone in attendance thought she was going in that direction. After a few elated people applauded the young lady she said, “No, no, I am not Kenya. I am going to the bathroom.”

Kenya’s name was called again: KENYA! And, once more: KENYA!

Remember, the young lady who said she was not Kenya? Turns out she knows Kenya (her bar stool was next to Kenya). She ran back to Kenya and asked/said, “Girl, you did not hear your name called? You won the iPad!” Kenya immediately ran over to the prize table with a glass of dark brown beer in hand (gotta love those ladies who drink Guinness) screaming, “I am Kenya! I won!” Kenya was told nicely, “We called your name 3 times and then we had a 10 second countdown. You never appeared so we pulled another name, and this young lady, Madison, has won the iPad.”

Kenya said with sista attitude and disappointment, “I did not hear my name. My girlfriend just told me that I won.”

I have shared this story with a few female friends, one African American, one Caucasian, and one Asian American. Their initial sentiment: ‘Kenya’s friend is not a friend.’

My Response:

I can’t believe (really can’t believe) that Kenya’s friend pretended to be going to the bathroom just to confirm if Kenya’s name was the one called. After it was confirmed that Kenya’s name was called, she then went back over to Kenya, her ‘friend’, to report to Kenya she had won knowing it was too late for Kenya to retrieve the iPad.

My Questions:

Kenya’s friend is that conniving and hate-filled that she would allow her ‘friend’ to miss out on winning a prize? She actually knew Kenya won – but did not tell her until it was too late?

What I Should Have Done:

I wanted to approach Kenya, and tell her that her friend is not a friend. I did not. Perhaps, I should have.

The Reality:

People know the company they keep. Some just refuse to eliminate the bad company.

Palestine is "occupied” land. Stolen then occupied! Israel will tell you that they seized the land after a war. War…? How about a fight that a bully started – and knew that he could easily win.

Disappointment Defeated

This was definitely a 'feel good story' despite what was lost regarding sport's history. I was so elated by the pitcher's sportsmanship and by the umpire's humility. Even in a time of obvious mistake, something good was present. Something defeated disappointment. It was understanding that stood strong. Isn't this what we want: To be understood when we make a mistake?

Decision Making with the Klan in Mind

Comprehension has disappointingly proven to be a difficult task when it comes to understanding the way the human mind works. One would think that if you live long enough that discretion, common sense, and wisdom would progress with human beings. That the growth would mirror the dreadful element that all of us have to contend with: Aging to Die.

I will be 40 in a few weeks. In my lengthy moments of serious contemplation I must proudly disclose that I am a little wiser than I was last year at this time. That is a good thing considering for several years I can transparently disclose that I have allowed lessons to go unlearned time after time. Thankfully, we have opportunities (too many in some cases) to reflect. Time to reevaluate. Moments to reassess and hopefully re-center. Meditation works!

Catherine Ariemma had to know her decision to permit the wearing of Klu Klux Klan attire by two students would be insensitive. She had too! Okay, she has admitted that she made the mistake of allowing the two white boys to walk down a school hallway to shoot a historical video was in poor judgment. I will give her that, and I actually ‘receive’ her apology along these lines. What I cannot accept is her decision making to include such a vivid representation. That decision was just asininely stupid. No matter what history lesson she was trying to convey it does not justify her outlandish decision.

How would Jewish students respond to a makeshift construct of gas chambers that are used to inform other students about the Holocaust? I would imagine Ms. Ariemma and her superiors would receive the same response if a teacher of German decent got on the school’s intercom system and declared, ‘The Holocaust never happened. That part of history is a fairytale.’

What would be the fallout if during Black History Month…wait - are hyper-sensitive blacks, calling it African American History Month these days? – an African American history teacher had a black male student to dress as Nat Turner and behave as Nat Turner in a play to commemorate his historical footprint? Both examples would display ridiculous decision making.

As we discuss this matter ad nauseam I hope we are comprehending the practical meaning we should gain from Ariemma’s dumb decision: Think before acting. Think before doing something that may hurt already mutilated feelings.

In this case, Her-Story lesson or not, the Klan should be discussed without attention grabbing theatrics. If not, what will be next? A public school produced play (get that? – taxpayers pay Catherine’s salary) to teach students the affects of slavery? Actually, that might be a good idea. But, I am not sure if I would be able to stomach how white America’s ancestors threw Africans over board slave ships when the Africans got sea sick, how Africans were sold like cattle on the shores of the Americas, how African women were raped by slave owners, how if a African got pregnant she was taking the chance of the fetus being cut out her womb, how African men were castrated all in effort to humiliate, how African children were forced to pick cotton instead of learning their 123’s and ABC’s, how well over one million Africans were lynched on the Land of the Free… http://markwadestone.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/lynching-1889.jpg

The realistic account described above is still wreaking havoc all across the hypocritical United States, the exploited Caribbean, and brutally imperialized Africa.

Someone tell the pearl wearing teacher that please. Someone please tell her that most Americans know that race has to be discussed openly in America. So happens, she does not need to tell black Americans that fact. She should perhaps mention it at her lily white social club meeting or at her church that probably would be in an uproar if a black man walked through the church doors with a Cindy this Sunday.

White Americans need the history lesson…blacks live the history every single day in this hell-bound white country! With that, let’s keep in mind that America is going to hell because of those in charge…President Obama is not in charge, Black People! Stop dreaming. Wake the hell up!

The Protector's of American Image are Exposed

As Americans we are/were taught to believe that America can overcome just about anything. In many ways the United States has been triumphing. Even, I a harmless vehemently disliker of these United States, will acknowledge that. I will also add that many of these "ways" have been purposely misleading acts of accomplishment. As a child I and most American children were led to believe (brainwashed) that America could do anything. Hell, this country sent a man to the moon! We challenged the Big Bear of Europe, Russia!

I will ease up here with the exclamations - and ask: WHY IN THE HELL CAN'T AMERICA and AMERICAN men/women stop that damn oil from fuming in the Gulf of Mexico?

In all our accomplishment, I have been reminded over the past month that America is like a boastful incompetent (typical of a bully).

Again, we can send a man to the moon, but cannot stop environmental death and the driving force of American capitalism (oil) from uncontrollably spitting one mile from the water's surface!

We, Americans, have been hoodwinked by The Protectors of American Image. Wait...I will call my Western Civilization teachers what they are/were: Liars!

This country is a bowl of smelly false competence! Once YOU (American) realize that, you will begin to move beyond arrogant isolationism!

My Love Affair is Over

Nothing or anyone has captured and maintained my elusive attention like her. She was consistent. Always interesting. Stimulating. Intriguing. Mind boggling. On countless occasions she left me with that glaze of confused expression. That umm/eyes rolling in my head look. I just could not get enough. Our intimate encounters were so passionate. Tingling. She always made me euphorically orgasmic. After experiencing her, it was a guaranteed good sleep. One and done!

When she sporadically changed up our meeting times I willingly complied. That was surprising to me considering I am a man who likes a strict obsessive compulsive routine.

She, at times, got me in trouble with my main woman - but I did not care. No feelings of guilt! She was well worth the arguments and threats of break-up. I loved her. I cherished our time. She helped me grow.

Twenty years of 'relationship'. TWENTY...Sometimes openly. Sometimes in secret. Twenty years of love, and not one argument. Not one bad word. I yearned for her because of our compatibility. That randomly singular – but more significant quality than love that many couples do not possess.

All good things must come to end. The chapter is over. The book is complete. My love thang is departing. Her time with me is up. We are done.

She will be missed. Yeah, I will see her here and there – but nothing is like the anticipation of seeing her anew.

How I will miss the hard-on she helped generate. So pulsating. So intense.

Black/White Fascination

It is amazing to me the level of pervasive negative sentiment that has suddenly arisen and that has become nationalized and owned by the American political landscape. This landscape consists of conservatives, Republicans, and right-winged Americans. Mostly white people. The Tea Partiers and alike.

For the first time in my history as a ‘de facto’ American, Generation X-ers are experiencing the doom and gloom apocalypse rhetoric. The world is ending because of…

Prior to the 1970’s (my infant/juvenile decade), America’s most divisive time that my historical education and memory can fathom was the 60’s. Like the sixties, some overwhelmingly believed that the United States was going to hell in a hand basket while others of The Culture of Change boldly initiated the efforts of sacrifice with hope and dreams. Many believe that this violently explosive moment in time was well worth it. The German Sheppard attacks were proudly welcomed to solidify righteous defiance to injustice.

Now that real Americans, descendents of the Pilgrims, are experiencing financial hardship and mass unemployment, that aforementioned sentiment is unabashedly lurking - and in some ways on the verge of lynching America.

In my analysis of where America is headed, my question has been one of Constant Contemplation: Why has America Suddenly Become Hell Bound? Not completely hell bound in the minds of those who have bought into the most recent and necessary Change Mantra. No. These people have been sold with passionate conviction. Convinced Change is abound. And, several of the purchasers of the Change have believed for years that America’s chickens are roosting. So, the hint of Change is a welcoming concept. But, one can’t help but believe with caution considering the United States has proven time and time again that she is xenophobic.

My interest is with those men and women who have conveniently ‘reconsidered’ their optimism. Optimism that has drastically moved to pessimism simply because the Change Agent is mulatto. Yes, there have been numerous writers and commentators who have connected this thought and behavior to the most recent Black History, a true African American man elected president. However, those of us who are tuning-in may need to question the vehement disagreement and jaded thinking about the future of America. If not, the Doom and Gloom thought process may just infiltrate the thinking of those hoping for Change. Psychologically that can be an easy process. Negativity, not reality, seeks and breeds the weak-minded. And, from my ongoing perspective of those who own Change are cognitively manipulated with ease. Similarly to the Jewish men and women who were against the extermination of Jesus – but somehow became sideline supporters of Pontius Pilate’s indictment of the Messiah.

It is my hope democrats and liberals will not fold. Cave in as a result of the overbearing Weekly Standard chatter. It is my hope that the Change Acceptors will not sleep at the wheel. If they do, the Empire (America) will hold true to what it has always been:

When did Saggin Begin, Pre-Adolescence?

I tried to 'keep my eyes closed' as I traveled on the Marta today. Tried even harder as I approached downtown Atlanta. No telling what one may see or witness especially when one has to change trains at the Five Points stop.

I really don’t like to interface with what many may describe as ignorance. Foolishness. It literally pains me. Hurts. Yeah, it comes in all forms and colors – but…

I am really trying my best to call this ridiculousness what it is: A Condition. A Sickness. An outcome of slavery. I definitely will not stay with the latter description too long considering black people have in countless ways defied the affects of America’s most brutal act! Let’s just call it An Illness.

So, as I left a multi million dollar skyscraper with ‘out of touch blacks and whites’ - I was brought back to a Black Reality. The attached pictures today’s story.

Arizona Concern

A few days ago I was feeling "detached". Unconcerned! Well, as of today I am feeling ATTACHED. A bit concerned!

Here is why:

is definitely a far reach...however, we must accept and admit that a significant amount of African brothers did participate in 'selling' our ancestors to the evil European enslavers. To do so, means that we are being fair to history. Historically responsible. What the Final Call article - which is well written - did not do is completely and scholarly refute Henry Louis Gates' claim. Until we move in the direction of refuting without personal criticism/attack of Gates he will continue to garner believers of his research. In many ways, Gates has an intellectually advantage considering he is backed by Havard University.

Education Dilution

Do you believe education/academia is being diluted by online education/online degree attainment? Also, what are your thoughts on the numerous 'storefront' colleges and universities? Storefront in the sense these schools do not appear to be creditable. For example, if a person graduates from a Clemson or Tennessee it is considered commendable because of status and name recognition. On the other hand, if one obtains a degree from a ITT Tech, Strayer University, or Bellevue University it is somewhat considered 'low valued' by academia and the employer community.

The non-Evolution of the Dark

At one time I was confident that darker skin would take off. Would lead the pack in choices. I do recall one moment in recent history when the word was, “Light skin brothas have played out.” I somewhat felt sorry for my high yellow home boys. Secretly, I was gloating. Happy that my grandma given nickname, Black Boy, would be substantive and possibly garner me more dates. It did. Well, not the name of endearment – but my dark skin became an asset. White girls love the Jack Johnson look!

In the total picture, scope of world affairs, dark skin has been a curse. Think about it…most people of darker skin tone have been systematically sodomized by the Powerful. Among this Powerful is the white Western structure and God. Again, think about it…white men have imperialized most of the East, savagely brutalized Africans with slavery as their tool, and hoodwinkishly raped the native land we refer to as North America. In all their savage efforts to do what was done to them in Europe, the white occupiers have succeeded at demonizing all that is black…except for the financial markets (in the black is good). And, I have not forgotten to elaborate on The Creator. God, Himself, has sanctioned the mass murder of people of dark skin. He has not protected any of his skin cursed children. Think about it…who are the recipients of God’s wrath mainly? All you have to do is think about natural disasters. Where do they mostly occur? I will not answer the questions for you. Just think about the faces we see in the news.

Before the brief period of what we thought was the skin color evolution there was a cultural caste group in India by the name of the Untouchables. These members who were less fortunate to be a part of a more acceptable caste have experienced unimaginable cruelty at the hands of light skin people who look just like them. Some anthropologists have dubbed the treatment of the Untouchables as the strongest racist phenomenon in the world. And, I thought black slaves had it tough?

Before the brief period of what we thought was the skin color evolution there was a time when black women, like Angie Stone, could not pay for a date. Black men preferred the Rosario Dawson colored chicks – and lighter. Some black people, particularly black females, believed that these brothas were color struck. I always wondered what that meant. Umm…color struck? I guess I was struck by light at one time considering I dated several half breed colored sistas. Actually, grandma inquired about my selections: “Why do you always bring them almost white girls home?”

Before the brief period of what we thought was the skin color evolution there was/is a siddity social body that used a paper bag as a litmus test device, the Alpha Kappa Alpha organization, to help determine if a female could gain acceptance. This is not a hidden fact. Most have heard or read about the internal discrimatory policy. The policy: If the young lady who wanted to pay for her friends was a slight shade darker than the paper bag she was ‘black-balled’ from being an AKA. Thank God for the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. They were/are welcoming of the dark skin rejects. I have been told too that the Zeta’s do not size discriminate either:

Mo as the Abused

I am so thankful Oprah has us talking again. She always seems to get us going over something. While her show has never been a 'black talk show' - Oprah's producers do find a way to hit black people in the face with their dirty laundry. I can appreciate that. I have found that black people often times need to be backhand with a smelly pair of underwear. It is a tough blow at first - but in the end the funk at least starts a dialogue.

Black people have been molesting each other for years. Nothing new. Mothers do it to daughters, fathers do it to sons, uncles do it to nephews, and aunts do it to nieces.

Where black people have failed in addressing the issue is with SILENCE. No one really talks about how Kistina was fondled for years by Uncle Bobby. It is common knowledge - but to speak it brings a forced level of responsibility to do something about. Yeah, other folk have this problem...I am aware. Me nah be dat shallow.

Some are faulting Mo for 'when' she made her abuse public. Does it matter? Some are saying that Oprah 'loves' to project black males in a negative light. Really? These are frivolous additions to move the topic from the forefront. The fact of the matter is that Mo's brother, according to her, molested/sexually assaulted her - and now a conversation is commencing with hopes we will begin to address child abuse without tip-toeing - and do something about it...like seek counseling. This could be an opportunity to talk with children about getting ‘touched’ in the wrong place!

Ironic, Catholicism's Main Man, The Pope, is said to have hidden what he knew. Wow! The Main Man, The Leader of Vatican - KNEW and did NOTHING. Goes to show black people ain't the only ones keeping secrets...but I will say that The Vatican should be charged by a World Court/United Nations/some international body for their CONSPIRACY of cover-up!

A Chilli List

There is much talk about Rozonda Thomas, her new show, and this 'list'. Lord knows I tried to be positive without fusing in reality. Notice that word: Reality? Lately, reality is mistaken for negativity.

‘Man this man that.’ So tired of this chatter about black men and them being No Where to Be Found. Two weeks and counting of me hearing about the pathetic desperations of black women when it comes to men. It is absolutely disgusting. Yuck.

Was watching the Today Show this morning. Matt did an excellent piece on Working Moms. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/36500286#36500286 - No black woman featured. That's to be expected. However, I began to think about the conversations we (black people) are having lately: ‘Man this and Man that.’ I began to think about how much black women focus on not having a man or believing that there are not any good black men. Then it hit me: The Message.

The message black women send to their daughters, nieces, and little girls in general...and teenage females. That message: You are Nothing without a Man.

I will stop here. But, before I go onto something worthy of my time (i.e. reading about the humanitarian, Alicia Keyes) I want to share with FEMALES an email a female friend sent to me after I asked her to help me find Chilli's 'list'. Here it is (below). Please read aloud the last paragraph!

Remembering Ron

My mentor, Ronald B. Wilkins is dead. Died on his birthday, April 10.

Over the years, as he got sick, Ron spent his final days extremely low key. The declining health really affected his spirit. It unmotivated him. He lost part of his faith. This after his faith was rocked by The People he so desperately tried to inspire and help never really grabbed a hold of his message. That was his biggest heartbreak.

Ron was a dynamic man. He loved people - and wanted to see a better place, here on earth.

I remember when I first met him. I was at my internship site on the first day. After unsuccessfully trying to convince the man who was supposed to show me the ropes of one particular recreation department that I was his responsibility for the day, Ron stepped in and took me under his wings. I never left...even after shallow-minded people told me Ron was a homosexual, and that "people think you are too now that you hangout with Ron."

From that moment, that day - Ron became my mentor. My confidant. My friend. My shoulder. My strength. My reason to be Ron's Soul Mate.

It was him who encouraged me to join the Peace Corps. It was him who encouraged me to complete seminary. It was him who convinced me that all events/things happen for a reason after I had given up on life. I recall that day of suicidal contemplation. It was two days after I had just won my second national championship. Why I was so depressed is no longer a mystery: I got tired of winning for everyone else - and still feeling empty.

The emptiness almost destroyed me. Here I was, a double champion - and I hated life. Life, is what Ron helped me ENTER with his constant sacrificial support, and joyous laughter. I began to smile...as a result of him.

Ron convinced me to be ME at all cost. No matter what people think, "Brian, just be you. No one else can. Love Brian E. Payne." Loving me became special priority!

I have often told people, "Ron saved my life. Therefore, he is my savior." That he was!! No Jesus saved me. It was Ron Wilkins and Brian E. Payne.

Without Ron's intervention on September 9, 1992 I would still be 'sitting and waiting' on someone to 'take charge' of me for a day. Without his intervention on January 18, 1991 I would be long gone from here...not living.

Angry White Men: Don’t Mess with Their Money

I learned in 1980 that the other valued color in America is green. White is the pure-ultimate color, and black is the despised stain. What an easy lesson!

I was ten years old in 1980. Smelling myself was my modus operandi then. Ready and willing to defy momma and grandma – and erection ready. No momma’s daughter was safe. While I cherished employment when I started working at age 13, I was not fully prepared to utilize my money in the most effective way. I did not save which in my opinion is a major shortfall for many black people. Some will find that a gross generalization – but I have a lifetime of facts on my side. Who makes up the collective wealth in North America? White people. They have the big saving accounts. They have the property and the land. They have significant ownership in most markets. It is believed that black people and what well-to-do white people classify as ‘white trash’ are the blood suckers of the American financial system. That in itself is more than ridiculous…I am of the belief that the filthy rich white men of America are the ticks. They also are relentless protectors of their money. There is an old saying that I have found to be true, “White people will sell out their parents for money.” Something to that affect. If you are white and reading: Yes, your reputation when it comes to money is pretty bad. And, to be fair this is understood about Nigerians too.

Understanding that white people function in this capacity, I certainly understand why the term ‘redistribution of wealth’ is a fiery topic on the internet and conservative talk radio. I knew it would only be a matter of time before President Obama would be linked to the overplayed terminology. It does have a socialist connection – and Barack Obama is a socialist…according to Glen, Bill, Sean, Brit, and Sarah. Guess who this group works for?

As I listen to The Right, I wonder if I were white and wealthy would I be up in arms about the potential redistribution of my money. Money that I earned with the American credo as my motivator, ‘All Americans have the opportunity to be whatever they want, and earn what they are worth.’ Since I am black and broke, I wanted everyone reading to know that I am somewhat leaning on the side of my white brothers and sisters. Well, I am with them while realizing that their ancestors stole everything that they benefit from today. So in affect, the Becky’s and John’s are rich because of their distant cousins willingness to take what makes people wealthy e.g. land.

Understanding this, do you think it is fair for wealthy white people (please be aware that I do know a significant number of black people are well-off too – but they appear not to be too concern about the White House’s efforts to redistribute wealth – Typical) to be heavily taxed, more so than the average person?

Let me close with this, if I were white (no wondering this time) I would be pissed if I looked at my earnings and leave statement – and noticed a total of $2500 in taxes removed from my salary that’s earmarked for some mismanaged social community organized program. I would be flabbergasted if every time I went grocery shopping, saw a fat woman fill a ride along shopping cart with the unhealthiest of food, and then tender with a redistribution of my wealth payment card e.g. EBT card.

Sorry, but I understand the frustration.

Don’t be Shocked: Bullying is a National Past Time

Bullying was a part of every school day back in middle school. It never failed. Some overweight kid with issues at home – like most of us - was notorious at strong arming me and several others. I will not mention his name in this forum because he is still lurking. If I am not mistaken he has been arrested several times, spent a few years of fed time incarcerated for pushing weight, and now struggling to be different with a Scarlet Letter, Convict. Wanting to be different from what kept him in the midst of America’s government supported illegal activity: Narcotic Sales and Distribution.

With all the compassion I have in my body, I cannot believe that pre-teens and teenagers are killing themselves because a school mate teases and mocks. Mutual public humiliation is a right of passage. Everyone gets a taste of being called: Bumpy Face, Fatty, Big Nose, Elephant Ears, Peanut Head, Darkie, Skinny Stick, Douchebag…the list is long - and brutal. As a kid, you are forced to give up you hamburger while being called a faggot and/or cunt. It is expected to be treated like trash. This is what kids do.

When I was growing up we dealt with it. We went to school and faced it until it was our turn to deliver the vile treatment to the underclassman. I recall an area outside of Mrs. Stumps classroom where my gang (The Elites) congregated in the morning before the opening bell. Our sole purpose was to harass girls and boys who dared to walk down the hallway. We were relentlessly cruel. Did not matter who it was e.g. sweet girls, cool boys, etc. we were out to make the day begin with the most insulting of insults. Then we would continue during lunch with the behavior. Again, it was never ending. But, no one committed suicide.

Actually, I am in amazement that suicide is an option for these kids. Perhaps, I should not be scratching my head at the latest news reports. Youth of today are not like we were. We were strong-willed. Determined to prove each other wrong. Today, what we have is a Nation of Punks that gives the impression that they have it all under control. They don’t. In their independence and information age thinking there is a huge void. They lack a serious amount of common sense. They have a shortage of ‘what to do if’ understanding. They cannot handle the pressure that comes with accepting the role of ‘please dad, I got this’. So, the most recent casualty should not be too much of a surprise.

Options are what we as parents and adults have when it comes to parenting and leading. We are the root cause of the emptiness these zombies for kids possess. We are failing our kids. Expect more suicides as long as we continue to parent from afar while living in the same homes with our children. No dinner time together. No world news viewing together. No Sunday afternoon drives together just to talk. Nope. We too busy on our devices e.g. BlackBerrys and cell phones. And, too busy thinking prayer back in schools will eliminate getting a ‘friendly’ beat-down. Bullying has always one-up’ed prayer!

Blacks without Jobs…and?

Why is this another potential crippling for President Obama? Damn is everything this man fault? Wow! Unbelievable. This problem existed even before Bush.

Should we consider that the unemployment rate is high among black folk because of countless ingrained and systematic issues? One issue could be that African Americans stop connecting education with employment. We basically dropped the ball collectively when it comes to education. Here is another one: African Americans are still discriminated against in the employment ranks. This will always be a factor…especially with names on resume like: I-E-Sha. Another one: Black people may not be getting employed because they are not interested in "doing the job the Mexican will do". Once again, we have to look in the mirror as a people before we start pointing the figure and hoping/praying the President will get us a job.

When I was unemployed I asked myself every day, "Why are you unemployed, Brian." I never blamed President Bush or the factors that are laced in the fabric of America. Come on!

Also, shouldn't there be light at the end of the tunnel for white America considering they are leading the way in most social economic categories?

Making a Case for the Revolutionary, Jesus and Barack Obama

Something I am not, a belief proponent in the divinity of Jesus i.e. born without sperm meeting egg, his exorcist powers, and him coming back to life after getting tortured and gutted. After reading his incomplete story, intellectually laboring over it in seminary, and debating with holy rollers I have to admit that I do believe, as the story should be interpreted, that he was a man who advocated for social and economic justice. That should be simple to glean from the ancient book of fables e.g. bible.

I refuse to waste your Good Friday time directing you to easily manipulated scripture to support the argument considering I typically use the inspired writers’ fiction as a mechanism to contradict Matthew, Mark, and Luke. That is remarkably easy to do despite the synoptic description. What I will do is advocate for the obvious. Jesus in all His glory was a Revolutionary. If the New Testament is an accurate reflection of His life here is how I know with simplicity that He fought for social and economic justice:

When He suicidal-ly marched in to the temple and proceeded to turn over the money tables he was in fact defying the Roman governmental structure (economic).

When He constantly spoke of assisting the needy and helping the destitute He was proving to the people that He was a man who cared (social).

So, as Glen Beck (modern day Pontius Pilate) continues to pervert (link above) the most valuable memory of Jesus let’s not forget that Beck has a purpose behind his rhetorical ignorance. He wants to prevent movements that are modeled off the most logical understanding of Jesus’ life. He wants to quell any hint of Gandhi’s and Martin’s efforts while pushing the inane unbelievable.

Spending time philosophizing whether Jesus walked on water or not is ridiculously wasteful, by the way. Even I can admit that considering the belief in this is a figment of imaginational faith - and mostly because I do not believe in Harry Potter theatrics.

The church that touts “The Word of God” should be presenting a Good News message that encourages us to stand for Jesus’ work, not His “saving power”. We can only save ourselves. No highly emotional ten minute altar can. No Good Friday dead man can. No hyped-up Easter Sunday sermon should replace Justice! Justice takes passionate formation in understanding that something just ain’t right with today’s replica of biblical Roman oppression.

President Obama recognizes this. Thus the reason he, in his clever and unassuming way, is leading this nation down the path of humbly acknowledging its harmful past and present via change (revolution). It may not ‘fit’ into the hateful political landscape of America. One thing for sure, those who can identify with justice – and not biblical mob mentalities are ahead of the game. This game is not about what occurs in the ungodly House and Senate chambers (similar to the church) – it is about true and dignified revolution. Not a Hate Speech Rally disguised as a Tea Party…

President Obama is in the right historical moment: The Place of The Skull, Golgatha. The home of the crucifixion. One must be crucified to be remembered. All Revolutionaries leave us this way. However, rebuking the Mt. Sinai mob mentality that commenced as Moses ‘met’ with the fireball image of God – and controlling it unlike Aaron did, may keep our Modern Day Revolutionary un-martyred.

Last Night’s Klan Rally Call

I watched countless white men speak on the Capitol floor whine and complain like they were losing their ability to steal/cheat/lie. Like their world was caving in on them. The velocity of the anger is over the top. They are made ass hell. Ironically, I find it so funny. Scary too.


When I listened to them speak I saw men who may as well put on a white hood and a white sheet. I can't see them as what they are: Congressmen. I see them as men ready to go 'postal'. Their hateful rhetoric incites this image. I believe without any hesitation that many of them are thinking, 'we are losing OUR country to this half-breed Nigger!' Somewhat similar to the hatred they felt when Barack Obama walked out with his family on the stage at Grant Park as The New Black President. For them to witness that probably had them thinking then, 'we are losing OUR country to this half-breed Nigger.'

Reform Facts and Ignorance

The truth of the matter is most of us are ignorant of the facts concerning health care reform. Just admit it. Don’t get pissed off because I told you! I don't blame us for being in the dark. This is the way our elected officials want it to be when they are pushing agendas that they say are what we want. So, no smack down from me. We are just the ignorant in this political gaming process.


We can always pull up bits and pieces of the health care reform legislation on the internet - and actually learn something if you are open to that. But, I must admit that too is a convoluted attempt to understand.

We can listen to the Glen Beck mouth off figures and scream out doom analogies. We can read an opt-ed from a liberal Huffington Post columnist. Or, we can sit in our living rooms and pray for the best to materialize from the pending passing of a drastic change that will not take affect until 2014. Not too long from now...Just don’t develop a pre-existing condition in the meantime.

The Right side continues to whine about the future like they really care about what America will 'look' like 20 years from now.

When did the average American start to give a damn about tomorrow? Seriously, what have we done as a collective group of people to protect our children from debt? Our government has bankrupted social security. The People have allowed this. Our lives have no 'security' - and our children's lives are completely susceptible to the policies and procedures we have enacted via a vote for Mr. or Mrs. Congress person.

The Left side is just happy to final stand behind a new initiative. They are too weak to even put up a legitimate challenge to any legislation the White House proposes. They too concern about appeasing the President.

One weakling gets a ride on Air Force One and his allegiance to health care for ALL gets suddenly forgotten. Wow! A plane ride - and a lifetime of work on health care reform for the poor in his Cleveland district gets scrapped. Democratic Representative Dennis Kucinich has displayed a respectable and hard line position regarding countless issues over the years. But, Wednesday, no matter what type of spin we put on it, he turned his back on his principles. He has wagered his legacy on the 'hopes' a universal option is some how forced upon a most likely Republican controlled congress after November.

My guess the bill will pass.

Those who favor the passing cannot communicate why they care other than: "I believe the President cares."

Those who do not favor the passing are in disagreement just to be in the No Zone.

Leaving all of us ignorants on the side lines ready to cheer or boo when the vote results are announced by Nancy Pelosi.

Would Hattie be Proud?

Should we be excited that another black woman has joined the Academy? Should we be elated that Mo’Nique has made her way there via dynamic talent? Or, should we be concerned that another black person got the attention of the elite Oscar Selection Committee by way of a Training Day actor's (Denzel) depiction: a ruthless and demented black character?


Believe it or not some events do make me smile. I am serious! I am happy for Mo! With what makes me happy does bring ‘question’. Criticism. Just the way I am programmed. “Satisfaction breeds complacency.” –Martin L. King, Jr.

Consequently, I have serious troubles with movies that portray black people in such a negative light. When I make the decision to watch a film like Precious it is with significant trepidation. I am often prepared to cry – and think about the condition of so many black people around the world while understanding that the events in a movie like Precious crosses racial boundaries.

The 'weight' of movies like Precious typically haunts me psychological for months. What's Love Got to Do with It is an accurate mirror into the life of Tina Turner - but sitting through the early years biography was tough. Yes, based on a true story according to Tina…not Ike: "I never hit Tina." But, the images of the beatings and rape have never left my mind. Therefore, I have vowed to never watch it again.

The same reflective feelings are there for every single movie that sick-minded individual, Quentin Tarantino, makes. One viewing of Pulp Fiction was enough for me to band my soul from his mind creations.

Soul is where so many actors pull from to make their characters real. Many do such a magnificent job movie-goers have to literally separate character from person doing the acting. I must admit it appeared Mo’Nique reached deep to attain her Oscar winning moment. Her in that jail house scarf was enough for me to reach for the DVD remote. I did not press stop, I sacrificially endured. I sacrificed my emotional healthiness. Unfortunately, the nightmares have begun. The same toss and turning script that played out as a result of watching Training Day (one of the only movies that I do not own with Denzel as the lead actor) are with me. The day time dreaming and visions are overwhelming too.

Dreams can be beneficial. They actually can restore faith and generate faith. According to dream interpretation experts, dreams are reflections of our subconscious. If that is the case my conscious is polluted. Full of garbage!

Faith is what I develop when I see movies like Invictus. Morgan Freedom did a superb job playing the character of one of the world's symbols of liberation, Mandela. He was not an evil parent or a dirty cop. His depiction was one I respect. One that awakes me at night with good thoughts.

Perhaps, I should stop making 'things' so RACE important. Perhaps, I should stop holding myself and others to the standard of “being a credit to my race”. Perhaps, I should ignore the conclusions one can formulate after considering the other two main characters in the movie Precious are light skin.

Why does the 'brute' of movies have to always be of darker skin tone? Why do the pathetic have to be of darker skin tone?

Student Protest...Not at HBCU's

Most of my adult life I have yearned for The People to take a stand. A few weeks ago I mentioned to a friend - "I am in the right place - but my mentality and drive are seated in 1960’s rebellion...therefore I am in the wrong era. I should have been on the front lines with the Black Panthers of the world."


When I saw thousands of students shutting down highways, sitting-in at state capitol buildings, and taking over university administration buildings I was pleased. Wanting to be there! And, thinking that the social indictment of today's young people is not completely true e.g. socially irresponsible.

This is what we need: Men and women standing up for what no one can take away, Education. Fighting for what was once considered a crime if you were black, Trying to be Educated.

I have said time and time again, "Only in America." Only in America is education devalued so much so that it is sliced and diced up to the point of intellectual bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy is where several HBUC’s have been heading for years. Thankfully, some may have been saved by Obama to Sign Executive Order Supporting HBCUs. Another commitment our president has made to black people. However, what disturbed me as I watched the news last night was the lack of black students in the protesting crowds. To help support my observation I called A & T State University, Howard University, FAMU, Hampton University, and Morehouse College this morning to verify if a student protest occurred on yesterday’s magnificently orchestrated nationwide Day of Protest. As I figured, after I asked, “Were there any student marches/round tables held on campus yesterday to protest state and federal educational cutbacks?” Response: “No”.

Without Daddy

I took a glance at the stats below, and thought: ‘Dang, where in the heck are black fathers.’ A natural response from many when one comes across percentages related to fathers? After verifying the information the real reality came to me again: The numbers include white men too. Then I thought, considering white men are among the majority population they are the ones leading the abandonment of children pack. There is no way African American men in the United States solely ‘owns’ this epidemic. A perceived black epidemic?


Without sounding like I am defending myself…considering I am a father living outside the home: Is it a guarantee that children will fall victim by the stats below if Daddy is not in the home? I must say, as I think about the countless men and women I know whose daddy was in the home, that an in home daddy or not children are susceptible to all of the below. Actually, when I think about it. The countless men and women I know who had the “traditional” upbringing have just as many problems as I do/did while growing up. Does this mean I should discount the traditionalism of Mommy and Daddy as a parenting unit? No. I will not discount it – but I do know for a fact men/women with daddy in the home are much like children of preachers: Many of them are completely jacked-up. That’s the word…Not mine!

Also, we must be vigilant in eradicating the misconception of Daddy Gone as an exclusive black issue. The numbers don’t lie; white men are MIA too…So thankful when I can strip the pristine-ness from Mr. White Man.

Also, I am convinced a father staying in the home when each day is H*ll is dangerous – and is more likely to create child monsters.
