The President and Memories of The Preacher

I have typically given all presidents my complete attention during The State of the Union address. The Commander and Chief of the United States deserves that...the office of the presidency deserves that. Despite my disgust with US politics I still remain fairly respectful…respectful of the institution that should be a representation of The People. Consequently, President Obama is that institution at this very moment in time. He is not a distastefully dressed mannequin that we point at when we are offended.

Is it a prerequisite that we honor the presidency? No it is not. But, I know firsthand that my refusal to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance and the United States of America National Anthem years ago was not received with appreciation. In fact, I was demonized for "disrespecting America". In that vein of identifying Disrespect, I am of the belief that disregarding the President and the attained office is a blatant act of Dishonor.

While getting aroused by the president's eloquent oratory skills and from experiencing the Holy Spirit tingle it hit me. My memory took me back to my home church. The church where my membership is not in good standing considering I have not submitted my tithes and attended regularly in almost 20 years. I am definitely a backsliding heathen in the minds of the presiding African Methodist Episcopal Bishops and their dutiful Zacchaeus’ behaving men (Luke 19) who are responsible for pillaging the financial coffers of not only my former church - but all the churches within the African American Episcopal Zion Church Conference. And, if the church does not pay up it will get a visit from The Black Mafia…the Gang of Bishops,

The beloved pastor of the church that endured my ups and downs with Christianity and boastful promotion of Islam was always pleading...more like begging...his flock to follow him in the direction of growth and prosperity. He delivered countless sermons that were initially biblically-sound. Unfortunately, toward the completion of his seminary influenced Word from God - and immediately before the guilt-charged Altar Call- he moved into the pathetic arena of supplication. He wanted the stubborn member-filled and family-favored congregation to get along. To work together to accomplish the church's aspirations and goals. To work together to appease The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ and the Most High Bishop of the AME Zion Order.

President Obama has been more than a President; he has also been a man in constant mode of reaching and extending the Olive Branch to his party's rivals, The Party of No Because the President is Black. They are the legislators

HOLDING BACK PROGRESS

In thoughtful reflection of my past and elaborate analogical creation, President Barack Obama has been my childhood and young adulthood pastor. He has begged and begged for the politically elected white men and women of this crumbing nation to put aside party divisions. To suspend party alliances...President Obama regardless of his liberal agenda -which I do not agree with at all- by the way, should be the respected inspirational voice that leads The Change that so many voters believed in back in 2008. He should not be regulated to a meaningless afterthought and a chirping bird that hungers to be heard. President Obama is more than a puppy seeking never ending attention!

Sadly, I know how his presidency will end. It will be a similar ending that my former pastor is all too well familiar with:

He will not succeed at forging bipartisan unity...he will be unsuccessful despite the list of 'accomplishments' that so many people are clinging to like bibles. He will leave office as another Jimmy Carter; who essentially is a gracious GIANT in his reincarnation! He will be a voided president who will be forced to pass on his message to those who are ready to listen, and eventually act. He in a sense will be the Builder of a Church...of a People's Congregation that's on the same page as he.

President Obama is a defeated pastor that understands that working within the House and Senate...within the Church Conference is a waste of time.

President Obama should have been a preacher. People listen to preachers...but they often times still have to bend down on bending knee in prayer

because The People of the Church are just as arrogant, mean-spirited, racist, and backstabbing as flame-face John Boehner and his underhanded Understudies.

A Black Eight-Three

There is an approval rating stat out there that would be alarming if I did not know my people...83% of black Americans approve of the job President Obama is doing...83% of blacks actually are happy...content...pleased with the outcome of his presidency so far. Really? Nah...dat crap is incorrect!

83% approve of his work thus far because he is black. In my conflicted mind and humble opinion that is shallow and should be a badge of shame. It perhaps indicates loyalty but it certainly does not define us as intelligent thinkers...critical thinkers...evaluators of substance...SMH.

We will die with the pending death before we rebuke what is not helping us. Sad...so sad!

I am ducking in shame today. I have no legitimate base to stand on with this craziness that we blacks continue to do/support. How are blacks any different from those citizens of countries that foolishly honor their leader when in fact the leader is raping them financially, culturally, and environmentally?! We are no different from those extremely poor men and women of West Virginia that vote a Red ticket when in fact the Red ticket legislation is hurting them!? We -BLACKS- are no different from those white poor men and women of West Virginia that vote a Red ticket when in fact the Red ticket legislation is hurting them!?

The Need for Kwanzaa’s Coat to be Christianity

Acknowledging and celebrating Kwanzaa was once a mandatory for me. I would literally get upset if a friend would not revel in the teachings with me. Even more disappointed if a friend displayed a hint of ignorance pertaining to Kwanzaa. Consequently, I believed it was necessary for people to know that Dr. Maulana Karenga was a FBI snitch during his reign as a Black Nationalist. That piece of information is not highlighted to discredit Karenga. I share it so that we are fully aware of what we support and hold in high regard.

The wandering of my spirit and excitement for Kwanzaa or any other black empowerment tool began its disappearing act years ago. Slowly, but surely I have begun an emotional detachment. A detachment that has intensified by simply watching the news or reading the metro/urban news sections of local newspapers.

Understanding that black life has become one of constant chasing e.g. sad seekers of a faded Greatness, I have become insulated and jaded by the reality that we, as a collective, refuse to position ourselves to be more than a politician’s rarely utilized utensil.

Our disappointing newsworthy occurrences are littered with heartbreak after heartbreak. Every single effort of The Collective is lost. It is gone. Washed away by and with the most popular pain medication of all, Christianity or some other form of mind-numbing spiritual generic.

Those of us who want something more than what we have produced for and introduced to the world undeniably try our best to remain optimistic. That futile attempt has become a waste that leads to more anguish for those men and women who continue to extend faith in a rejuvenation of The Greatness…

Take some time reviewing what once elevated us to The Greatness, the Principles of Kwanzaa. Think about Dr. Maulana Karenga’s objective. Think about how and why he became an FBI informant…a used utensil for the purpose of violently dismantling The Black Panther Party.

The last fearless assemblage of black leather jacket wearing elites that boldly rebuked what has permanently destroyed Black Americans, Integration.

Then see yourself for what you might be…a Turncoat. Many of us have put on coats that are nothing short of heritage assassination.

Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.

Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.

Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together.

Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.

Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

Imani (Faith): To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

Now, I ask, what purpose is there in celebrating and acknowledging something so ancestrally sacred when we –black people- truly do not reflect what makes up our original existence?

Note the words/phrases in the principles’ descriptions: collective, we, our people, community, together, and own.

We are so far away from those words/phrases applying to us…let alone describing us. And, if I am wrong/off-base help me consider another truth…and if your response is, ‘This is what Kwanzaa is for...the principles are meant to guide us/to get us where we need to be.’ – please know that you are in a fairytale! You are among the confused Christian-hopefuls that believe Jesus is coming back…

We are the only group of people on the face of this earth still trying to ARRIVE…the only people trying to ARRIVE with the help of a repressive religion, Christianity. If we treated Kwanzaa as a religion…as Christianity - we would have been returned to The Greatness without a longing and desperation for Jesus!

Santa Claus is a Black Man and Jesus was a Brother Too

This time of the year brings on so much anxious anticipation. At one time in my life I was definitely not a Christmas celebrating type of guy. My children somewhat changed that. Being an uncle altered that too. Now, I am Santa Claus and Mr. Holiday Season Interior Decorator. Christmas infiltrates my home every year! All in all, I am of joyous spirit when the world celebrates the hypothetical birth of Jesus the Christ. Again…documentation supports that Jesus was not born in December! That’s if you believe Jesus was birthed…

Another truth, ain’t no overweight white man with a white beard flying around giving out toys. One last truth, Jesus and all his biblical confidants and antagonists were not Caucasian. Thankfully, my son, Bryce Emani, does not have to see images of a white Jesus every single day. His preschool does not encourage that pervasive mind-controlling fib. His mother and I found an academic institution that purports datum’s.

From Africa to the Pacific Islands the human mind has been a playground for European trickery and domination. In every way possible the suspiciously identified as Pale Face by Native Americans has manipulated the masses in an effort to whitewash significant elements of humanity. The Value of Confidence is Dignified - and Damaging?

That’s my Closing on/in my cover letter. A friend of mine shared her cover letter with me a few years ago, and I decided to ‘borrow’ the closing remarks. It tickled my interest then – and it definitely fits my personality now. So, it is my non-cliché Closing. It is my way of projecting confidence prior to meeting me.

At one time in my life I was incredibly shy. I was so self-conscious…having a large head and dark skin can challenge your self-concept. I recall how I would position my head in such a way that would not reveal its enormity. Basically, I avoided the profile view. But, I never allowed my unappreciated spooky complexion to defeat me. Light skin has played out…well, not completely. Herman Cain is not liked by politically-leaning African Americans for one conscious reason and one subconscious reason: he is a conservative Republican and he has that coonish skin.

Avoidance or some degree of it is extremely popular for teenagers and young adults. When we are that age we try to do everything right so that we are not ridiculed by friends and friends of friends. As we age, grow into maturation, we…well not all of us…become more confident in are physicality and in ourselves in general. Confidence grows and evolves…

Confidence is a subjective characteristic that’s typically gauged by others. Actually, one can be the most insecure person but project bold confidence – and that’s usually what people walk away believing: ‘She is so confident.’ But, truly, she may in reality be one of the most self-doubting persons on earth. Thus the reason our conclusions regarding confidence are subjective.

Conversely, I am filled with a tenacious confidence. Not as a result of something invalid. No…I am self-assured because of the results I have produced academically, athletically, and professionally. So, when another friend indicated to me that she likes my cover letter - but has an issue with my Closing. She said, “It reads a cocky.” That ensued a pause…a double read…a stop!

What did she mean “cocky”. Knowing my friend I know she is only trying to help. She wants me to gain employment. I certainly understand that. I appreciate her because she has been in my corner without any judgment of me for almost 20 years. We have also provided each other with affection and companionship for what feels like a lifetime.

Perhaps, a HR Generalist, Hiring Official, a resume/cover letter Reviewer, or one of these faddish life coaches my find my Closing cocky - but in my two decades of reviewing over 1200 resumes and cover letters, hiring up to 90 job seekers, nominating and placing well over 500 Peace Corps applicants, and approving 25 plus men/women for employment - I have determined that self-assurance is valued in the workforce. I definitely understand that there may be some intimidation that some feel. I am a big black guy living in red Georgia! That in itself terrifies white and BLACK people!

BUT I refuse to lower, adjust, or downplay my High Point and Howard University-groomed competency and country boy likability to appease someone sitting across the interview table from me. I just can’t do it. Sadly, in a moment of doleful desperation during this stint of unemployment I have. The sense of ego loss and shame from dishonoring Minnie Payne’s guidance (a larger than life Humanitarian Legend) that I felt while sitting there looking anxious is probably what caused me not to get selected. I shrank myself to appease an overpaid, fat, full of himself, bad breath black House Negro.

When I left that make-shift interview I decided then and there that I would NEVER EVER ‘hide my confidence’ for anyone or sacrifice myself for any amount of money! Since that day I have been at peace: Jobless – Non-Salaried – and without a Plantation Job. Yes…I have a higher level of dignity…not perilous pride.

I will remain unemployed if I have to belittle myself to work for and with men/women who do not appreciate what the Samson of the bible displayed:

Waiting for Notification…but do I really want the Notification?

You wake-up every morning wanting it to be different from the other mornings:

See an email notification in your Inbox that's promising...a job that meets your skillset and experience.

You spend part of your day hoping your cell phone rings...rings with good news, not a Christian’s Good News (‘Hang in there at least you are living.’) Although appreciated…but:

A hiring manager on the other end preparing to invite you in for an interview.

You spend another part of your day praying that you will receive an invitation to interview via electronic message:

'We are pleased with your resume. We would like to invite you in for an interview. Is Monday, the 15th at 9:30AM good for you? Please respond via email.

Waiting on that Notification can be extremely nerve-racking. So much is consumed in the notification: self-esteem, self-value, recognition, education/experience acknowledgement, and bill paying preoccupation. Waiting for Notification is nothing like the wait a sexually active person experiences after a HIV/AIDS screening…please get tested:

All the unemployed desire/want is some level of 'outside' empowerment. It helps when we, the nation’s 14 million unemployed, are acknowledged. All the unemployed want is a job! It would be great if the job was within the professional scope of his/her background. If not, a job outside of the resume scope will suffice e.g. day labor, raking leaves, trash pick-up. Most of us are not above what is deemed as ‘demeaning jobs’. A job…any job builds confidence and self-worth. It helps the one who has endured a lengthy unemployment period to massage their ego. Unfortunately, we –the United States of America- have created an environment where our identities are attached to our work. I say 'unfortunate' because in the throes of unemployment we –the job hunters- are desperately seeking

NOTIFICATION. We live to work, and not live!

Notification is what I received a month ago. Thanks to President Obama, EUC will benefit me. Emergency Unemployment Compensation was extended by President Obama earlier this year. I am thankful for the extension…guess my vote was with purpose! That’s about all I have received from my constitutional right. A right that many ignore. One time in my life I would ridicule those who do not vote – but of late (the past 3yrs) I have changed my tune…simply put, voting in a federal election does not make sense considering the deciding factor is usually the Electoral College. Nonetheless, I will vote again with annoyed trepidation.

I need EUC…which is tagged as a handout by many Republicans considering I linger in employment uncertainty. Well, I am backstroking outside of my training…I do whatever it takes to make the ends meet - and with this new survival motivation that stems from my need to make money, I must admit that I am thankful that I am experiencing Unemployment at this stage in my life…it is another joyful opportunity to experience Humility and build Dignity.

My ancestors picked cotton so that I could acquire the White Man’s prerequisites! Don’t be fooled everything that people of color reach for is what the pilgrim’s descendants approved.

The task now is to keep mine eyes on the prize. I must not get too content. I must not stop searching for a job that will provide health insurance for my boys. I must not become lazy. Shiftless. A deadbeat. A societal burden. And, believe me it is relatively easy to fall into that pitiful place:

To NOT Wait for Notification

EUC in some ways is a double edge sword. On one end the unemployed need the extension to survive and on the other end the unemployed can become mighty comfortable for two years doing nothing to get back into the workforce. Nada! I am at ease - but not so comfy that I do not rise each day hoping for NOTIFICATION.

However, I must confess that it is quite enticing to just roll over and play with myself…it is safer too!

It is also easy to collect a check each week, to not have to worry about anyone from the Dept of Labor checking up on me, to not participate in any of the mandatory trainings/classes that the Dept of Labor indicated the unemployed would have to, and to never go back to the Dept of Labor for anything. All we –the unemployed- have to do is communicate with…well not communicate but listen to a voice automated system and press the right buttons on a smartphone.

One thing I can count on in my Circle of Life are random opportunities to gain clarity with the help of a friend. A casual conversation can change my outlook…a viewpoint that has been a part of my DNA for the longest time can be altered with The Word…a wise word not a clichéd reformation of canonical scripture.

We get older and wiser. Then we experience, The Chance – not a preacher approved Godly retribution.

A Chance that forms as a result of the decisions that we make. It is one step forward with numerous steps backwards, and if we are stuck in the Learning Curve that learning constantly introduces we are not getting wiser. To be wise is to be Simple.

A reduced priced T-shirt from Target, a pair of aged cargo shorts that were pants in another life, and a pair of vintage black high-top Converse are classic items that scream, Simplicity.

This is what one of my best friends helped me concentrate on a few days ago, Minimalism. He said, “I am so tired of all this rhetorical verbiage that dictates what is necessary to Make It…all this emphasis on the American Dream…what is that anyway? It is simple for me…I want my life to be modest. Nothing more, nothing less.” –The Teacher

I am definitely in agreement! I am so thankful that I did not terminate not knowing that a life lived…really lived is one of Simplicity. The cars, houses, shoes, clothes, all this materialism consumes humans. Avariciousness occupies our thinking, our lives. This Occupation is a self-made trap that entices.

It is like a rat that knows if he steps forward to reach for the cheese he is going to suffer a major consequence, Death. It is as if the rat wants to die just to get a taste of the finer things, aged cheese. Human beings are the rats. We want, we desire, and we covet to the extent that we die chasing a Dream that’s fantasy; that was defined by men who were banished from Europe, The Forefathers. Inconsequently, it is a ‘thing’ that we will want to eliminate when we finally reach a state of non-Occupation.

The men and women who are occupying space, not a Cause, are commendable – but in the same vein they are hypocrites. Sadly, they have no idea that they are the stink bugs of Hypocrisy. They are Standing for what…? They are fed-up with elected officials ‘making it easy’ for the wealthy. I to some extent agree with them. However, I also remember bits and pieces of my Intro to Human Psychology class. Most of the Tent City Occupiers know that they would eagerly jump at The Chance to be rich. They would be just like this One Percent of people that they find pleasure in demonizing while taking pleasure in identifying themselves as the righteous Ninety-nine Percent.

99% is the latest and greatest fad. In my complex lifetime, there is nothing Simple about a fad. It is usually consumed by bandwagon folk who have no individuality. To be eccentric he/she HAS already embraced the Simple things.

I often times wish that I would have learned this years ago as an undergraduate student. I, many of us, were so green…we studied and passed our exams so that we could put ourselves in a position to make money: attain letters behind our birth certificate names. We stayed up all night fueled on No Doze memorizing so that we could ace the test or cheat to pass…this effort taken to be among the One Percent or at least in the class of The Middle and Upper Middle.

We certainly did not acquire student loan debt to become friends with Sallie Mae even though she periodically sends text messages laced with default threats. We did not acquire student loan debt with the hopes a liberal black president would bail us out. We did it to make money! With that same money many of us idealist Democrats would have – and some have – purchased the Mercedes truck and the oversized house…two items that we will never really own considering paying a tax on both means that at the end of the day: The Government owns the vehicle and the home.

Americans got it all wrong. Life is Simple, not tough. It only becomes complicated when we convolute our existence with outlandish expectations and outrageous STUFF. My friend, The Teacher, and I have vowed to downsize our lives in an effort to be like Jesus….

Crazy People are the Real Patriots

They maybe "disorganized". They may not have a solidified focus - but their voice must be heard. The present 'Occupation" that's taking place in various cities within the United States of America is a People's outcry that should get the attention of impotent politicians. From the White House to the Capitol Building there is significant failure. A failure that could be avoided if mostly white men and one mixed man would just put the country first. Put the People first! Unfortunately, they will continue to take the United States to hell. She has been on Her way...but over the past three years it is evident that The Speaker and his Crew are the Party that will go down as StoneWallers of policy that could advance the country...simply because the pigmentation of the President is BLACK. It is ALSO evident that The President and his Liberal Buds will go down as the Excessively Liberal Crew that has attempted to Change this nation for not the necessarily BEST. Most importantly, the men and women (MOSTLY WHITE – Blacks are too satisfied) are doing what we ALL should be doing: VOICING discontent. I appreciate these people. I admire them. I will join them soon! If all we ALL camped out on public property in protest, stop going to work, stop using public transportation, stop shopping, stop doing the things that keeps America going…We ALL will be better off. Troy Davis, The Death Penalty Reconsidered…Without a Doubt

In response to the pending Troy Davis execution (7pm tonight – Jackson, Georgia) someone asked me, “How do you feel about the death penalty?” Damn…another question that reminds me that I am getting old. As I move closer and closer to my porch, rocking chair, tobacco pipe, never-ending glass of Fire Fly Tea…with Jesse at my feet and my boys taking care of me - I am becoming a little less abrasive and more compassionate.

My equally ferocious killing of the maniac stems from my Hebrew Bible embrace…well, parts of it. It is also reflective of my ability to be full of rage. As I read and participated in several blogs and Facebook discussion about what the State of Georgia plans to do on September 21, 2011 at 7PM, I am no longer consumed with the fury I felt a few days ago when I began my ‘highlighting’ of the Troy Davis case. Tuesday morning when I received word that he was denied clemency, I initially did not respond – but then I checked my phone. That question was in my Inbox:

“How do you feel about the death penalty?”

I FEEL the death penalty could serve a good purpose if the world’s judicial systems were created to issue impartiality. I also FEEL I would be okay with a ‘live by the sword die by the sword’ punishment if the system was not diseased with favoritism. Let’s face it…Caucasians have benefited from an unjust process. Let’s face it…darker people of the world have been innocent victims of the inhumaneness of White Supremacy…a ruthlessly attained sovereignty that has a foundation of infinite inequality. Let’s face it…money and dynamic attorneys have and will continue to get the worst of the worst of hominoids off...and yes those people are and will be of any race. Money rules! But, it does mysteriously appear that when a black man legally earns/acquires significant wealth he is ‘scrutinized’ with a vigorous zeal to destroy. Troy may not have had enough money? Classism is the other noticeable elephant in the room.

Troy Davis will be lynched (I learned yesterday that the word lynch was not exclusively used to identify or define a hanging) also in part because the slain officer’s family believes that they will be at peace with a

carried-out death sentence. A black man has to die. The blood thirsty Dixie mob made its way into the 21^st century.

I am convinced ‘death issued’ by flaw-plagued and guilt-riddled humans will not and cannot bring peace. Even if I were to kill someone for brutalizing my family I know without a doubt that I would not be at Peace.

Sadly and fortunately, peace will be enforced by man and granted divinely to Troy Davis come 7:15pm Wednesday, September 21, 2011. He -in all of this- Troy is the only mortal gaining what all of us seek:

Pastors are not above inapt behavior. Knowing this is not surprising. There is nothing wrong with accepting it as commonplace either. Attempting to be above behavior that we consider ‘sinful’ human action is commendable especially if you are a ‘called’ person of the cloth.

Fortunately, a pastor’s conduct is placed on a mantel…FORTUNATELY. On the mantel should be accompanying elements of life that are worthy of respect. Today, the respect that man has for God’s designated domain –the pulpit- has been uprooted with an ordination that’s not befitting of Church Leadership. If this is true, why do church congregates authorize bad deeds that are exhibited by the leader, The Pastor? And, even a better question, why do church-going black people close a blind eye to what has/is destroying the black community?

The African American preacher was once humble. Once slow to respond to a petty irritant and quick to interject gracious discernment. Pastor Alex Williams did not utilize caring - or a forgiving perspicacity. What he decided to was eradicate the problem himself. Did he not learn from Moses? Moses needed Aaron and Aaron certainly needed Moses.

Being a man who is charged with ‘leading a flock’ does not have a license to take the law into his own hands. Did Pastor Williams not learn anything from Pontius Pilate?

Pastor Williams is supposed to be the example of the long ago faded mantra, What would Jesus Do. And, we know that the Jesus of King James’ testament was not prepared to blaze with bullets. He was too meek…almost punkish.

There are also significant accounts within the sacred text that indicates Jesus was a man of compassion. A man of community empowerment. A man of community mobilization for the good, and not the bad. What this out of touch Church of Christ Bishop did was a classic example of black on black crime. He shot a black kid over property. Yes, vandalism in all forms is wrong. It is unnecessary – but understanding where I was psychologically as a thirteen year old I cannot and will not condone the pastor’s decision to unload his pistol like so many ‘justice seekers’ have over the past few months. As if Williams is a hero,

Surprisingly, there has not been any BLACK community outrage in support of the black kid. None! No march to support misguided black youth. No calls to the mayor’s office demanding more resources to invest in teen enrichment. What we have witnessed is the ignorance of black silence; not legitimate black hypersensitivity. What I have witnessed as I asked, “Isn’t it amazing that that preacher got off after shooting a 13 year old?” What I have disappointingly endured is, “That ni**er should have been shot!”

I am not shocked by this response from the African American community. We hate each other so much that we want our future (black youth) to be hunted down and then terminated.

The glorification of BEATING our kids is nothing short of a slave mentality. Many will claim that 'beating' our kids is necessary to instill some level of discipline. I am certain that there was one day in the great past of the United States of America that there was significant excitement among the masses when there was an announcement issued pertaining to a job fair.

“Come one come all. We are having a job fair. We have the ideal job for YOU. Dress to impress and bring plenty copies of your resume. There will be companies prepared to hire you on the spot.’

Now…fast forward to today.

The unemployment rate is hovering at 9.2% - and even higher in several states.

If the percentage chart is too blurry to decipher, just know that the dark red is attached to 10% unemployment. As the dark red gets lighter know that the rate is 9% to 8%.

By the way, the unemployment rate for America’s black population is an astounding 16%. But, that is irrelevant to those in charge. And, surely a safety concern for the yuppie’s that benefit from urban rejuvenation in places like Atlanta and the District of Columbia.

Home Depot has been known to randomly layoff hundreds of employees – later participate in job fairs and receive resumes with NO plan to hire or fill the positions that they vacated/terminated. Home Depot also understands psychology: The visual presentation of hiring is pacifying to the job seeker. It is similar to a preacher telling a church member to ‘hang in there’. That for some confusing reason comforts the Believer. It gives them a superficial hope that they can depend on with prayer as the motivator…

After standing in a long line...LONG line…WAITING for up to three hours to enter. Then to be told: “We are not actually hiring – but we will take your resume. And, you can also visit our website to submit an application.” is enough to send someone over the top. Losing it…is not worth the night in lock-up. You may as well be happy with standing and associating with others who share your plight and desperation. And, when you get home after a treacherous day in the sun have yourself some cheap vodka. That will numb the emotional pain…but that is only temporary. What next?

If you think I am off-base or passing on a lie please spend some time reading and hearing all the disappointments after a day of pimping yourself. After saying all the right things. After dressing in the best suit and wearing the lucky tie or panties. After gurgling mouthwash and sucking cheap peppermints all day. After smiling and trying to project confidence in the face of foreclosure. After repeating the same story about yourself.

Like interviewing, all one is doing during a job fair, is exposing oneself to a person who has a job. And, in my experience I am so much more intelligent than the man behind the job fair table display and definitely more qualified than the putts conducting the interview.

So, how does one go about getting a job? Wish I could tell ya! What I do know:

Try networking...if you are black do the networking verbal diarrhea with white people. Most blacks have no outlets for the unemployed. No leads. Or, that black person you come across that is willing to network with you under false pretense more than likely is in a position of disgusting insecurity so he/she will not assist you in the fear that you will take their job, do better than them, get more attention from the white boss, or make more money.

Try sleeping with the hiring official…yeah prostituting appears to work. Men - especially - will hire a dime piece just to get in the dimes’ pants or up the dime’s skirt. Women in authority or in a position to hire have been known to flirt aggressively until they get the man to objectify himself by sexing the female boss in the copy room.

Try getting a face lift…change your appearance…it is a known fact that if you are not easy on the eyes you are not getting hired. And, if you are overweight you have a lengthy unemployment stint ahead of you.

Simply, getting a job today has nothing to do with your experience and/or qualifications. And, going to a job fair does not increase your chances of securing employment. Some will say it has always been that way…Some will say “it is all in who you know” – and I will respond with, ‘Really. I know a lot of people. Some corporation executives, city officials, and former colleagues who are in a position of status at non-profits and agencies – but my behind is still jobless.’

The best the unemployed individual can do is pretend to be positive, search online or walk in a business, and bunker down because having a degree or two degrees, valuable work experience, and spunky enthusiasm is somewhat,

The Choice

Last week there was an anticipated amount - but absurd bleeding heart sentiment pertaining to the death of Amy Winehouse chatter on the World Wide Web. If you have never heard of Amy I am certain by now you have got your fill of her pitiful life.

In my effort to interject and receive opinion I started a Facebook conversation, one of the many on Facebook, about Winehouse’s deliberately troubled temporary existence. There was not a need for me to explain to the readers what type of woman Amy became over her short life. She without regret showed us! I am certain what she became was NOT what her mother and father expected. With this understanding, it was my goal to point out that Amy Winehouse chose to live the way she did. She selected her life from a multiple choice pedigree that was tainted with substance abuse and addiction:

B. B. Hard Liquor

C. C. Prescription Meds

I am not sure what her childhood was like. It actually does not matter for my view of the way she lived. Again, she gave us plenty to examine. The Humbled Trash Man

He asked, “How do you do this?” And, I did not have to respond. My youngest son did all the talking for me. Bryce yelled, “Daddy…” from 50ft away. It was one of those beckons that’s really: ‘Where are you? I need you now!’

Of course my parental radar activated. I was at attention - and Bryce was simply confirming that his father was still in sight. Still available to him. I definitely was accessible. Yes, I was in his midst! I was completely covered with sweat and reeking of hot garbage.

I was in the trash shoot room. The “How do you do this?” question from my teenage neighbor was an innocently curious inquiry. He truly wanted to know why I am the Trash Man. He wanted to know what has changed in my life. He wanted to know why I was not in a fancy building with pretentious coworkers barely working in a small cubicle. Likewise, he wanted to know how I could stand in a room that’s insulated with a hideous odor, infested with soiled diapers, full of decaying food, tenacious horse flies, fleshy maggots, and unrelenting mosquitoes.

Yeah...that was the teenager’s real question. Thankfully, I did not respond verbally. I try my best not to intake the curry aromas of Indian garbage so talking is prohibited. The identical whiffs of road kill and all the other bags of pig slop for some reason triggers Earl. Vomiting can be a recurring Before Lunch experience if I breathe via nostrils. The smell is putrid!

With a quick glance up and over to the right - and with a finger point I answered the teen’s question. My paternal attention was on my brawny two year old and my index finger aiming was the polite indication to the teenager why my employment has uncharacteristically evolved and become one of many respectable

Unemployment has been remarkably kind to me. I have been humbled again. Nothing wrong with that…Humility needs recurrent characters.

I have definitely learned from this edifying time of unemployment – and as I am relearning I have been reminded of a day when I worked for Marc Goodman, my Thomasville barber. One hot July morning, Marc asked me to go clean his barber shop parking lot. It was littered with Newport cigarette butts, a few Billy D. Williams promoted liquor bottles, and Sir Pizza to-go cups. With offensive disdain I rejected. I became insubordinate. Goodman calmly explained, “Brian, you have to reverence all jobs. Give them value. You work for me, remember? Now, help me maintain a clean and reputable shop for our customers.” Marc Goodman was one of many Teachers with lesson plans for young black men like me. He and other willing black role models like Richard Flippin mentored when mentoring was not defined.

Flip’s and Marc’s lessons are cemented in my unshakable belief: No man is above any job. If he believes that he is – he is duping himself and unlike numerous Mexicans missing out on an honest living.

No one is safe in the United States government’s instigated 9.2% unemployment rate. No one! Not even a country boy who earned an undergraduate degree from one of the best private universities in North America, acquired an advanced degree from the best HBCU ever formed, completed courses for a doctorate in Theology, and who has extraordinary –for a black man- work experience that expands from Eastern Europe to the Eastern Caribbean - and back to the collapsing Superpower that’s owned by China, governed by a Republican congress and led by a powerless black commander and chief who’s presidency has a striking resemblance to his predecessor’s administration:

Gentle Passage

My passage has been gentle, not a blessing. Thomasville Made Me. That is my blessing! God has granted me -as a mortal- a life that I have been responsible for...no Woe is Me Dependence on God and definitely no powerless devil has altered my passage, My life. I have lived as I wanted - and when there was a joy from my life I owned it. When there was a negative consequence from living in and through this passage I have owned that outcome too. I have been the master of my fate. Good or Bad. Gentle, is what I have tried to be even when I was inflamed with deep seated rage. Gentle, is what I have been when God knocked: Gentle avoidance better known as Hiding like Adam after he was discovered in guilt and gentle head over heels. My passage has finally found what is worthy: Love…sprinkled with Gentleness and Truth.

Imagined Frontiers

I have used my mind to lead me to bliss. To euphoria. The frontiers of my perception are settled. It is the last step toward my final destination, Death. The steps have been Ordered. I want to defy my natural and terminal demise by succumbing to Freedom. Ultimately, my aspiration is to cheat death by becoming free. Then I will never die. Leaving me right at the border. Our thinking should be limitless. It should be unending and difficult to obstruct. Nothing or anyone should hamper our thoughts unless we are guilty of highjacking time to suit our selfish desires. Returned Awaken

On this 41st birthday, I am Awake. I have returned from my forced closure. From my Self-induced termination. I have been living as instructed…Abundantly and without Man’s Approval. Please do not mistake my criticism of African Americans personally or as self-hate. Well, if you are an Americanized African like me you may have no other choice but to be offended by my analysis of our intentionally persistent shortcomings and apathetic avoidance of what is vital. Actually, these are the elements that have broken my heart over time. All I have asked of us –including myself after my racist past- is consistency in self-love and a display of love towards others. Others who do not share my skin tone and others who live across Earth’s waters.

It is apparent to me that black people of the United States have serious difficulties with showing and -at times- extending love to not only self but to people who we have every reason to temporarily dislike. Our disdain should be brief, and not lifelong. Yes…we should not have many issues with white descendants of Jim Crow implementation at this stage in our Americanization. Especially, if YOU -the Christian- claims Christianity as the ONLY way and as America’s religion. The adaption of Christianity is inclusive. In its authenticity it should not see shades of color. But, we know the reality of that: Color has to be seen for people to have something to keep them from being simply Human. We are not colorblind because we need singular and limited identification. That in itself is so shallow. Consequently, some white people have used this man orchestrated religion named after a white Jesus to be vicious. And of course, we know that some black people who idolize this bleached Christ abhor white people. Interesting, love the white image of Jesus but hate his so called father’s worldly offspring…Caucasians.

So, with this concentration on race – an earnestly rational application that I prayed to have removed from my being recently (last week) – I ask,

‘Why hasn’t the black community within the shores of the USA publicly mobilized in Love and Concern to at the least mention - via black talk radio, black blogs, and black-focused web sites e.g. Grio.com and BlackVoices.com - the God permitted tragedy that was inflicted on the people of Joplin, Missouri?’

African Americans, after decades of personal economic advancement and enhanced social upward mobility, sadly -in the collective- remain mentally void of their heritage and culturally handicap. With emphatic envy, I continue to be amazed by what the white man - with the assistance from traitorous black people - have accomplished. Willie’s tenacity to rule the world may have been immoral, but his successful efforts to dominate were, simply put: Brilliantly Remarkable.

Some claim the white man’s success was gained by evil means; and I agree up to a point. That ‘point’ becomes blurry, hard to identify and substantiate, after concluding that the Africans that briefly resided on slave ships and destined for the New World would have seized the opportunity to dabble in

agricultural slavery if the tables were turned. However, some white people conveniently preface African enslavement of Africans to boastfully justify the diaspora nightmare Europeans set in motion.

Further, after living and breathing as a black man in America I have regrettably accepted that the affects of slavery have permanently paralyzed unified black progression. I have also determined -a long time ago- that the Americanized Africans that we have become are recipients of self-hate. A hate that will ultimately be the demise of God’s pigment rich people.

A hate that if vehemently rejected by prideful African Americans potentially could have been a towering and black forte - and not some superficial Black Power fad without a bite or a sting.

The last time I was stung by a bee was October 1997. On that day, my deceased mentor’s mother died. After replaying all the details and happenings of that day my mentor and I discovered the pronouncement of his mother’s death was at 10:38AM. Ironically, that was the exact time that I was stung by the bee. My Kenneth Cole watch revealed that time when I smashed the bee on my forearm.

The last time I was bitten was the week of May 15, 2011. This recent bite was inflicted by psyche-deficient African Americans. Not all, but I am certain an enormous number of black people internationally and domestically are infected with the ramifications of the color line. The prominent Doll Experiment and shameful Alpha Kappa Alpha Brown Paper Bag Test were raised from the shadows last week. I was reminded that the outcomes and extended variables of both monumental occurrences remain a part of the black DNA.

It is no secret that Black people have been programmed to believe that light is always better. That is nothing new. However, after so much success within our race from dark - and light skin people like Harold Ford, Jr. one would think that we would be BEYOND the following:
“You are such a pretty…dark skin baby.”

My god daughter was insulted with that idiocy quite frequently last week. Sidnee is what some would identify as dark. The description is fitting. It is reality. But, coming from black people it is indicative of a washing of the brain that REMAINS. Still here. Still among us. Still suffocating black people despite what we have endured. One would think that after all the bites and stings we have endured that we would beyond the hate that was maliciously implanted in our consciousness. Not the case!

My Sidnee will not be a causality of black folk’s pathetic Negroid intellect. Consequently, Sidnee was complimented with dignity by Caucasians e.g. “She is such a beautiful baby.” Note: No offensive adjective preceding the word baby?

She is my pretty little baby…my Godchild. And, not some African American girl cheaply regulated to “You are such a pretty…dark skin baby.” Which is code for, “To be dark she is pretty.” Yes precious, adorable, and a few decades ago would not have been permitted to become a pink and green wearing AKA.

I guess this commentary explains my reasoning for my shocking decision.

The Decision: I, Muata Nowe, have pledged to no longer write about race relations. I refuse to address race from the disposition of defense. For far too long I have defended black people against the onslaught of brutal racism. Never really taking a lengthy public moment to acknowledge and accept that black people are the racist within the black race. I have been frontin’ for black people…I have safeguarded us for far too long…and what have I received in return

Something interesting just occurred…I was searching the internet looking for a picture of a statue that was erected in Senegal last year. Built by North Koreans, by the way. I became interested in it after reading this month's Ebony magazine. There is a blurb about it in there.

Mendenhall’s statements should bring the Christ followers back to God’s adapted reality. The New Testament reality. And, that TRUTH is - no man/woman should rejoice when a life is terminated.

Not that I am a supporter of Osama bin Laden or his acts of terror that he has been connected to over the years. No way whatsoever! If his involvement that has been shared with us by the United States government – and our unrelenting and biased on both sides – the Left and Right - media outlets he in fact in my non-religious and inhumane belief was worthy of death. Additionally, this is my Hebrew Bible thought process…but if I were a Christian of today my modus operandi SHOULD be with the new line of thought. That thought is within the pages of the New Testament. God’s new Word. A gracious and forgiving word that all Born- Again men and women are divinely mandated to embrace. Also, within what so many Believers inaccurately refer to as the Old Testament there is a commandment that’s remarkably easy to understand: Thou Shalt Not Kill.

Here again, is a perfect case of man’s favored ability to pick and choose. Our frail inconsistency is at work! It is an ideal example of man’s way of religiously determining what is appropriate for them to believe and not believe. This is what the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament promotes: Situational Non-cemented Belief.

There is no way one can live a life without hypocrisy and contradictory if he/she proclaims to believe The Apostle’s Creed as veracity. Yes. You, Sunday pew and bedside Christian, are a self-acknowledged hypocrite and incongruous individual if you are singing this week’s praise song, ‘Death to Osama bin Laden’. If you have exclaimed, ‘Thank God Osama is dead’ you are the spitting image of Hypocrisy’s first cousin, Judas…when it is all said and done you will hang yourself too.

This blunt pragmatism is not announced via commentary to condemn…it is made to respectfully remind and humbly reeducate the Christian who is intentionally and unintentionally lost in their religiosity and who is spiritually under the spell of The Great Opiate, Religion or any other mind controlled celestial subject matter that religious belief is without a doubt idiosyncratic.

My Worries Remain, The Killing of Osama bin Laden

In the mind of the terrorist the celebrating is indication that America is relenting. Perhaps, there should be a brief moment of dancing in the streets – but typically what happens is the United States government begins to declare victory in ways that motivates those who want to do the USA establishment and its citizens harm. The gloating may be needed for heighten morale in the United States. It definitely will be a huge energy jolt for our sacrificial men and women in uniform.

Since that tragic day back in September of 2001 I have wondered what will be the outcome. I have always contemplated on what would be the presumed finality of The War on Terror. On that day, I was sitting at my desk pretending to work and trying to look important at my federal government issued rat space. When one of my best friend’s ran to my cubicle out of breath - and informed me of the morning’s developments, I became numb. I could not move. Stunned. After a few, what felt like LONG moments, I began to think of Malcolm’s words of prediction: “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” Yes. I am well aware that that thought was somewhat filled with misplaced vindication on my part. No one needs to tell me that on this day, May 2, 2001. I have accounted for those memories of Malcolm’s contempt for African American brutalization instituted by the hands of US government. It was a fleeting thought that was connected to my once harbored pain. It was my frustration with US politics, and my inability to tame my disdain for how this country has conducted herself all around the world and within her borders.

Today, I do not feel relieved at all. The killing of Osama bin Laden has not brought any comfort. I am not elated. Ironically, I have this overwhelming feeling of preoccupation. My mind is in that place of concern that another terrorist leader will rise – and he will ultimately seek retribution for the killing of his powerless figurehead, Osama bin Laden.

That’s what Osama became. Nothing more than a man Wanted by a nation that helped shape and solidify the art of terrorism. Now that he is reported to be shark food, I would like to be assured by our protectors from violently Radicalized Islam - Islam is not the enemy - that they will remain vigilantly on the hunt for the foreign terrorists that have successfully become Americanized and on the watch for Heartland Americans that have become anti-American.

As we carry on this week, let’s not forget Osama bin Laden issued an irreparable blow to the United States. Since that day, this country has been going downhill. Just think about that before you jump to protective and support mode for the USA. Economy. Unemployment. Threats of other terrorist attacks. And the huge elephant in the room: Pervasive Division.

When division looms weakness is up for the taking.

Will America gain something from this moment other than chants in the streets? Will she seek justice for all the men and women who have been drastically impacted by what September 11, 2001 produced?

The next production…must be jobs…employment. Perhaps, if I were employed I would feel some jubilation? Since I am an Unemployed Revolutionary, I have no reason to place my United States of America flag in my window. My flag will rise above my preoccupation when I am able to stabilize my life with what this country appears to give more to non-citizens: OPPORTUNITY.

My mother and I were just talking about ‘arrogance in the pulpit’ on Easter’s Sunday (get that?). The conversation we had reminded me of my disdain for what the BLACK Christian Church has become. Pharaoh of the Hebrew Bible was stubborn. He would not relent. He fought Moses and fought Moses. He would not remove his ego. His arrogance. He never pursued humility. Therefore, he got what he deserved. He lost it all. His empire. His riches. His son. He lost the respect his wife had for him. Today, when I think about The Pulpit I get repulsed by the sights…the insecure men – the women with an ax to grind – the scriptural and Christology ignorance – and the high and mighty dispositions carried by men and women who are leading God’s people straight to hell. Not the physical hell…that does not exist. It is the damnation of spiritual, emotional, and mental hell. Black people in the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean are following behind Pharaohs and Serpents. Eddie Long with his muscle bound body and egotistical personality is burning in a hell and he is leading the most vulnerable of us to an abyss. He will be a Pharaoh of today. He gonna lose it all. If I were shallow or limited in my perceptions and thinking as the Powers expect its citizens to be - I and others would have grown up believing that the US was the World. SMDH. Actually, even as a World Power the US is a SMALL country. Small in geography and thought! But yet, Jennifer Lopez is the World's Most Beautiful Woman...Really. While J-Lo...sorry she stopped being J-Lo after she stopped tagging along with Diddy to increase her popularity stock. Was a good move on her part...I am certain he hit dat so she paid for her new status. Pat that MF (Diddy) on da back! While Jennifer is a pretty woman-fine too- (MERCY)-she NO WHERE near the Most Beautiful in the World. Definitely a gear shift for for People Magazine: a Latina gets their props? Wow! I thought this 'acknowledgement would be permanently reserved for America's Scarlet, The White Woman. Now, since we have a black president (in color only) - perhaps a black woman will be named the Most Beautiful one day. What ya think? I have learned to NEVER say Never...The White House has a Black man as Chief. Typical…and before I continue – please don’t get hypersensitive. If this was another white woman, black people would have a lot to say. I base that on similar past events. The past is always a great predictor of what people will do in the present/future. I am also convinced that -you perhaps- thought the mother was white. I did. Without thinking about it…I pictured a mentally distraught white woman…after a white woman told me about it. My white friend thought the black mother was white too. But, then I opened up my email. AOL.com provided a picture of the mentally distraught black female for me and the world. I do try my best to reserve my contempt on matters like this. However, I must admit I am pissed off with the black mother. I am disgusted each and every time any adult decides to KILL their kids. It is excessively selfish and coldhearted. I wish these people would just kill themselves! Why the kids? By the way, I am not sure of the black female’s background – but this is a GREAT opportunity for the black community to address MENTAL HEALTH. We have dismissed it for far too long. If the past is a predictor of the present…black people will not have the mental health discussion. Just got off the phone with my boy and he mentioned mental health while we were discussing Lashanda Armstrong. That’s at least a start!!! I challenge us to have some level of discussion with family this weekend about mental and emotional health. Hell, just stop and ask someone: ‘How are you doing today. Really, how are you doing?’ You will be surprised how that may help someone recognize that living can be WORTHY!

Open Letter to Black People

Dear Black People Living in the United States of America,

Do me a favor. At least consider doing me a favor. Please stop saying that “Black people are the most forgiving people.” That is so untrue. So far from the truth. We have not forgiven the white slave master ancestors for their brutality. How can we claim that we have extended that MASSIVE level of forgiveness when we have yet to self-recover from the brutality? Look around…In many ways, we have not changed. We display our brokenness constantly. Consequently, what we have done is adapted, assimilated, and emulated. Even with our Eurocentric change we are still acting and behaving with brutality towards each other. One does not forgive the brute and then begin to behave like the brute. The interesting development in all this brutality is that black people brutalize each other like the slave masters did – but fail and have failed to respond in a demanding and collective way that indicates that we are Anew. That we are washed clean. Sanitized. Forgiveness brings a different mindset. It literally creates a new person. It produces a new human that has released the past. It brings peace within. We are a long way from being at peace with ourselves and with our brothers/sisters. So, please stop saying that “Black people are the most forgiving people.” If we were, we would not have become the Brute. And, just to entice the emotion and intellect of the Believers in the Jesus story – and to utilize my non-belief of Jesus’ divinity theology; consider this: Jesus forgave. He actually became what he was not before. He became an example of what forgiveness can do. During this Easter season, let’s try to be more than what we were a minute ago. Let’s try to love each other then institute a genuine love with all of humanity. Let’s try to view the biblical stories in a humanistic domain. Let’s make the story real by becoming Anew. Forgiveness demands a change. A radical change! Actually, as I conclude and shut off my brain for a moment I remembered that Easter is ALL ABOUT CHANGE.

When American Weapons Came Back

Someone help me with my history fact check...

Has not the United States militarily equipped the opposing arm within a foreign country before? Has not the United States traveled down this road before? What was the result in several ...instances: the same weapons given to the opposition (rebels) were later used to kill US military men/women. Yeah...this has happened before e.g. Desert Storm. There are more. How can the United States government be sure that the so called rebels in Libya are not terrorist that staged the turmoil in this African nation in an effort to receive/acquire weaponry/funding from the US – and then later use the weapons against the American people internationally and domestically? I have a justification for the White House’s thinking: they do not think the so called rebels are smart enough to orchestrate a plan of this caliber. Remember, September 11, 2001…? Yeah we do. That was a BRILLANT plan! The US government is that arrogant…still. SMDH! Thus the reason this country continues to fall. The NAACP Continues to Receive a Failing GPA

The Georgia Chapter of the NAACP is at it again.

No matter how much I try to ignore this useless organization nationally and locally I get pulled back in with an unwanted opportunity to challenge their misguided but ultimately spineless leadership. This time they are yelling, kicking, and screaming about the Georgia based HOPE Scholarship revamping. Changes to the awarding of the scholarship have been made to address the state’s budget shortfalls.

While I am vehemently against overcompensated and out of touched lawmakers seeking to slash elements of education and other vital services e.g. law enforcement, I have unfortunately come to the position that something has to be done to get this Red State out of the Red. Yes, other avenues can be chopped…like salaries that are significantly unearned by men and women who report daily to the Gold Dome. We all know that will never happen!

In their lack of legitimate and worthy complaining, the NAACP of Georgia is proving to the state of Georgia residents that they are clueless and drastically impotent. They are threatening to stage a boycott of the lottery. Lord…I can’t stop laughing!

Isn't that kind of shooting themselves in the foot, because if they boycott the lottery then the funding isn't going to be there for the HOPE scholarship to begin with?” –Degree earned student who received the HOPE Scholarship

What good will another limp protest serve? Do the appointed NAACP leaders know that – if by the grace of THEIR weak God – there is a slowdown in lottery ticket sales that the benefits of the HOPE privilege will be decreased more for students already receiving this precious gift?

Mr. Dubose’s ridiculous comments regarding HOPE Scholarship disbursement read like this:

‘We want the scholarship to be for all, and not just the wealthy.’

Mr. Dubose can’t be serious. This statement implies that only rich people can and is benefiting from HOPE. Additionally, and also pathetically – his diarrhea-laced comments imply that rich people are the only men and women capable of acquiring the required grade point average.

He made it without any baseless complaints from the NAACP.

And, speaking of complaints, I wonder why the NAACP has yet to strategically address black on black crime. Just the other day a black female STUDENT was shot in the head after a black savage (boy) fired and unloaded a handgun into a car filled with black female STUDENTS. I wonder if the bullet wounded young lady who is presently in the ICU as a result of being struck in her intelligence capsule (head) will regain consciousness so she can be awarded a HOPE Scholarship.

Once again, I rightfully attack the NAACP. Once again, I boldly challenge the NAACP to stand for a cause that honors the intelligent orchestrators of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Why should anyone revere, follow, or take advice from an organization that STILL sings?

Unlike the yuppie white Ikea shoppers, Leviticus 18:22 rejecters, and black skin Obama loyalist – the Middle of White America has had enough of the political diarrhea that actually comes from their elected e.g. lawmakers. Street Sweeping My Way

In this life that I lived I have not planned too much. Seriously. I have lived my life in a way that mirrors: Just Living. The only adjustment I have made from time to time was that I listened to my inner self. Really listened – and heeded when the ‘voice’ lingered.

When my acknowledged spirit suggested that I go in a necessary direction I did. When my never-wrong spirit told me to slow down or stop I did. Not once have I said, 'this is my goal...my objective.' Not once!

Consequently, a retentive planner would peg me as an atrocious Life Manager which definitely gives some make-shift Life Coach justification to seek me as a client. By the way, what adult pays someone to 'coach' them on or through life? That's another intelligent but conniving method wastefully used to secure money from those who are incapable of 'ordering their steps' with or without the opiate, Religion.

Again, I have planned nothing!

Any of my academic and athletic accomplishments that are considered successes by others did not begin with a road map or an over zealous life coach. Simply put, I have worked hard and exercised some non-religious and unsanctified faith. Guess what? Life happened. What we experience everyday happened for me, Life! And of late - not praying for myself - but certainly living in the Spirit of Truth while striving to be what God expects: Golden, with a Rule. God did not sanction Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Jainism, or Hinduism! The Golden Rule was here…among us long before man drowned us with religion.

Remember, I have not prayed for myself…in the longest time!

As I close another unplanned chapter in my life, I am reminded of what my high school Black American History teacher whispered to me on jersey retirement day: "To those much is given much is required." –Luke 12:48. God has not, will not, and did not call, sanction, bishop-tize your priest/pastor! A blue suede shoe wearing man delivered an eight word sermon on that tremulous evening. He is not pictured…Mr. Watson!

I have been given so much. I cannot quantify the intangible gifts. Mr. Watson's words were more than a gift as a matter of fact. The words have been a subtle cautionary suggestion and a remarkable guiding light.

On this last day – February 25, 2011 - with Goodwill of North Georgia and the final day of indirect service with the Corporation for National and Community Service, I am not afraid of uncertainty, I am however contemplating a graceful exit from social service; and as a result I see myself in reflection asking

What are you going to do next? Do you plan to add another badge of honor to your cherished employment bag?

Not sure - but I know one thing, I am going to work so that I may live.

Thankfully - and a self-believed addiction from time to time - my living is connected to my passion for service despite the fleeting unfulfilled feelings that I have at the end of a tiring day. A day that in many ways may have been a waste considering the one needing the 'leg up' decided not to climb out of her apathy; refusing to embrace life's opportunity, Living.

Just live, People. Live in such a way that you can look back and be proud of what you have left behind. I am looking back on my most recent life contribution…I must admit with reservation and jaded exhaustion, I may have left my final humanitarian mark and effort at and with the Goodwill Career Services’ unit. I am tired…but for the sake of positive encouragement:

Let’s Put Someone to Work. Give him a broom! Ask him to Sweep up a Good Life! Let’s plan to leave behind nothing tangible as we sweep our street (life). Let’s leave those remaining after we are gone with one understanding:

Black Heritage...My Pessimism to Mirror Redemption

“I don't have the mental energy to invest. I am so tired of what black people have displayed in the collective. We will celebrate our history then we will gun down each other in a club parking lot. I just don't have it in me this year. I actually would feel ashamed to discuss black history at length considering we are truly not worthy of speaking of the remarkable contributions made by our esteemed ancestors. I am sorry, Family - I am literally beat down by what we have become. Again, I am so sorry. And, I wish I could be more upbeat with this brutal fact. I can't because of the projected number of black men that will be killed by another black man this February.”

That was my mental and emotional positioning on the eve of Black History Month 2011. I was certainly not in a celebratory mood. In fact, I was prepared…again…to totally ignore any efforts made by friends to spotlight African American heritage. I was that frustrated with black people in America!

Then on the 1st day of this Black History month I thought about how ten men and women, including myself, honored our ancestors every month starting in February 2010. For a year now, we have been responsible for either developing a Black Trivia or answering the trivia question. The effort required textbook research, writing, and internet investigation. Our objective has been met for the past eleven months. The objective

On the 2nd day of this month while trying to stay in shape and making an attempt to not die of a massive heart attack, I thought about the past. My past. I remember these words that formed into a sentence:

In my effort to be better I grew to love being black and Black People. Consequently, the love has been so intense that I have unfortunately alienated my white friends - and I have regrettably based my happiness on the collective accomplishment of African American people. Both, decisions have been severely detrimental. While both have been damaging, I believe the decision that has caused the most tragic emotional consequence (scar) is/was investing so much of my spirit in black American advancement and achievement.

Certainly, I acknowledge our progression. However, when I take a total stock of the success that we as a people have garnered I must admit that we are still in a less than desirable condition! There is no need to list the plagues that we suffer from...we know them. But, I will sadly acknowledge the condition that has black people on their death bed: Self Hate.

As a result of Willie’s psychology, countless white Americans chuckle at our non-progress; and the self hate has produced apathy, a ridiculously narcissistic ‘I am better’ syndrome, it has completely removed blacks from black pride, and the hate continues to produce House Negroes.

Then finally on the 3rd day of this month, I was searching for one of my favorite song son YouTube. I found it accompanied by a Black History video presentation.

It is Tax Season!

There is more energy in the air. People are walking around with more confidence than they had six months ago. The car salesmen are ready to make a sale. Men are a little more prideful. Women are smiling. Best Buy is prepared for an increase in flat screen television sales. Ministers are rubbing their hands: more money will be placed in the offering baskets. Hair salons have stocked up on weave, activator, gel, and perms. Barbers are excited; their tips will increase. Strippers and prostitutes are prepared for more work. The Asians nail salons are gearing up for the weekend onslaughts. The mail carrier will be approached by men and women waiting around for the coveted W-2's. Additional weight will be gained because people are going to purchase and eat more food. Some people will give money to family members without condition. Liquor houses will be packed out with people dressed like they are headed to the Grammy's. Trailer Park communities will be littered with Milwaukee's Best beer cans. A child's social security number is of premium value...this will surely put Baby Momma and Baby Daddy at odds. Comcast and Direct TV are adding temporary technicians because people are getting or upgrading their service packages. And, you will hear over and over again: 'When I get my tax money...'

It is Tax Season!

Yesterday I traveled away from my community stomping grounds for a moment. I ended up sitting in my vehicle watching people come and go. The Chevron was off the chain! I discovered why when I went in for a bottle of water and my weekly 24 ounce of Miller High Life: folk were playing the lottery.

I was in the parking lot of a shopping plaza. I decided to circle the lot. As I coasted I counted eight income tax service businesses: Tax Time, Jimmy's Income Tax Services, Thank You Jesus My Money Is Here Tax Preparation, etc. Everywhere I looked there was a place to get your taxes RAPIDLY completed.

Of course, we know that these businesses are ripping people off. Right? We also know that the service seekers are aware that they should not pay an untrained tax preparer $500 for twenty minutes of work. Right? But, the people want their money...NOW. I can understand that. I really can! Times are tough, and President Obama did not provided any certainties of immediate value during the State of the Union address.

However, the seekers of that scam for a service – usually are people struggling to make ends meet - can get their taxes 'done' for FREE, and guess what? Their money will reach a bank account within 5-7 days. Sometimes less than that!

Why not wait a few more days?

I know why: People want their money...NOW! I definitely understand that…

If you are or know a few people who are prone to use the services of these exploitative business that are supported in name and status by the likes of Magic Johnson please do a little research. Google 'free tax preparation'. You may be surprised by the hits. Actually, if you are in the Atlanta area and make less than 48K hit me up (payne0323@aol.com). I don't expect to get any emails.

I have often been painfully reminded that "this is Georgia". Reminded that mind sets for some are 'locked'. Shackled with old time ways. High-jacked by what the media spews. Frozen in opinion by what THEY see day to day. And, what THEY see is clouded by images of a sensitive struggle and dominating despair. A despair that dates back to an atrocity inflicted on innocent men, women, and child from Africa.

In all that we do as darker people nothing will change the mind of those who refuse to address THEIR internal conflict. And, believe me, one can be this racially and stereotypically conflicted - and still help those who do not look like THEM. It can be labeled,

Not that racism or cultural ignorance was the root of the comments made yesterday during a useless diversity training: "Columbus discovered America", "When I go there" (as if to say 'those people' or ‘that place’). And, these comments came from ‘the liberal evolved’ – men and women who spend their days adhering to their guilt at non-profit organizations. Men and women, who ‘oversee’ the work of Jesus for the disadvantaged, disabled, unemployed, and DEFEATED. Defeated by the lingering affects of slavery, discrimination, stereotyping, and – yes – deep-seated hidden hatred.

I refuse to label it Racism! That is an easy way to dismiss the shallowness of yesterday's destitute description.

No, yesterday was a conscientious word choice (destitute) that explains and solidifies what is in the mind of so many we want to believe have our (darker people) best interest at heart.

Speaking of the heart, hearts have to be changed - THEIRS - ...but I am done with trying to change the heart of those who really do not understand me or any other emotionally and psychologically raped African American.
